This looks tricky, but it might be worth siding with the well-bred ELIMIRA, who ran well for a long way in a decent soft-ground maiden last time and looks on a fair mark for her nursery debut. Hatshepsut is a possible improver with a hood added in her first nursery, while her stablemate Fiji Gold looks interesting on her third over course and distance on her penultimate run.
The other one on the shortlist is another unexposed type in Next Second, who has shaped with promise from off the pace in her last two starts.
Wings Of A Dove has plenty of speed and sets a good standard back in a novice, but her record stands at 0-14 and she dropped right out in a course and distance handicap last time. Ubahha has shaped as though this switch to 5 furlongs could suit and is a big player if he can get back near his best for a new yard.
But, preference is for the twice-raced GUSTAV GRAVES, who showed clear promise with his front-running third at Doncaster and is open to more progress on his drop back in trip.
Course and distance novice winner WIZARD D’AMOUR is better than he showed at Leicester last time out in August and, having been gelded since, he could tap back into his previous promise today.
He’s the pick ahead of fellow three-year-old If You Dare, who could appreciate this return to the all-weather, while Beheld is also respected having gone very close at Kempton last time.
Not many of these arrive in good form but one exception is Bellevue Lad, who backed up his Musselburgh win with another good effort. He is open to some improvement and is feared, but the suggestion is RUBY LILY.
Drawn wide last time over 7 furlongs on her handicap debut, when she tried front-running, she can prove suited by this step back up in trip and can take advantage. Itsallaboutluck and Thunderoad are respected.
Oot Ma Way may have better to come now that she has broken her duck, but preference is for RECUERDAME. Simon Dow’s five-year-old returned recently from a summer break and is taken to come on from that run to take advantage of a handy mark. Broughtons Chief is not ruled out, while support for Inexplicable or Macocha would be interesting.
An interesting race in which the vote goes to course and distance winner ON THE RIGHT TRACK (NAP), who made it two wins from his last three starts when beating a clear second at Goodwood and is a big player again off only 4lbs higher on this drop back in grade.
The other last-time-out winners Sundayinmay and Invincible Soldier are feared most in that order, though Crystal Guard is well handicapped on his best form and could be dangerous on his step back up in trip.
Street Life has never been in better form, but a 9lbs rise asks a question of him and he’s taken on with PRINCE OF ROME, whose recent turf form bodes well ahead of this return to his preferred all-weather scene. Denzil’s Laughing is another for the shortlist.
Course and distance winner Nacho returns to the all-weather after finishing runner-up in two starts on turf and should go well, as should four-time course winner Jorvik Prince despite his increasing losing run.
However, the choice is I’M WATCHING YOU who won twice over 6 furlongs here at the start of the year and finished clear of the rest when runner-up off this mark over course and distance last month.
