The Sussex Stakes is the feature race on day two of Glorious Goodwood 2021.

Poetic Flare is the hot favourite to add to his wins in the 2000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes but he faces nine rivals – and we’ve got the lowdown on all the runners in Wednesday’s 3.35pm.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Poetic Flare

Trainer: J. S. Bolger Jockey: K. J. Manning Age: 3

Looks set to make up into the top 3-y-o miler having taken the 2000 Guineas and St James’s Palace (impressive, widest winning margin in the last 30 years). Hard to beat.

Order Of Australia

Trainer: Aidan O’Brien Jockey: Ryan Moore Age: 4

Tough prominent runner who won the Breeders’ Cup Mile last year and back to his best when landing 7f Group 2 at the Curragh a fortnight ago, readily making all. Should be bang there for a long way.

Snow Lantern

Trainer: Richard Hannon Jockey: Jamie Spencer Age: 3

Has taken off at the top level of late, second in the Coronation then reversing that form with Alcohol Free with an impressive victory in the Falmouth. There is more to come from her.

Alcohol Free

Trainer: Andrew Balding Jockey: Oisin Murphy Age: 3

Likeable filly who has continued to progress, landing another Group 1 when seeing off Snow Lantern in the Coronation. That rival got her revenge in the Falmouth but she should give it a good go again.

Lope Y Fernandez

Trainer: Aidan O’Brien Jockey: Frankie Dettori Age: 4

Placed 4 times at the top level last year and again when chasing home Palace Pier in the Queen Anne. Should be suited by this course placing more emphasis on speed and entitled to respect.

Tilsit

Trainer: Charles Hills Jockey: Kieran Shoemark Age: 4

Edged out by the classy Skalleti in a Group 1 in France before resuming winning ways in the Summer Mile at Ascot from Century Dream. Won C&D Group 3 at this meeting last year and he’s no back number.

Century Dream

Trainer: Simon & Ed Crisford Jockey: James Doyle Age: 7

Won the Celebration Mile over C&D in 2020 and as good as ever this term, following up a listed win at Windsor with a narrow second to Tilsit in the Summer Mile at Ascot. Stiff task at this level.

Duhail

Trainer: A. Fabre Jockey: Jim Crowley Age: 5

Has raised his game again this term, notably landing the Group 2 Prix du Muguet at Saint-Cloud in May. Just second in a pair of Group 3s subsequently though, and likely to come up short at this level.

Chindit

Trainer: Richard Hannon Jockey: Pat Dobbs Age: 3

*Chindit has been declared a non-runner.

Space Traveller

Trainer: Richard Fahey Jockey: Daniel Tudhope Age: 5

Smart 3-y-o who bounced back to winning ways in thin listed race at York last month. Well held behind Tilsit in the Summer Mile next time though, and up against it here.
