Plenty trying this trip for the first time, including top weight and handicap debutant Toofan. Form of his win looks solid and though he can be forgiven his subsequent placing over an inadequate trip, he lacks experience. Jeewan caught the eye on his debut for new connections and like several of these, including Farhaa, Jaahez and distance winner Al-Tabari, will have benefitted from their recent runs. With the James Owen stable flying at present and capable of getting one ready-first time out, it could pay to side with the relatively unexposed JADAAYIL, who has made the frame in a similar contest and has the scope to improve.
This looks quite open among the form horses but IDILICO may be the answer, provided he copes with the forecast fast ground. Cogital is second choice, ahead of the respectable maidens Sir Charles Punch and Spycracker.
The one to beat is 240,000gns breeze-up purchase GORGEOUS STAR, who made a promising debut at Ascot and should progress well. Allayaali and Prosperous Voyage are strongly respected newcomers, in that order of preference.
Easily the most appealing contestants are RODRIGO DIAZ, Hasty Sailor and End Result in that slight order of preference. They are all capable of further progress and Rodrigo Diaz may prove strongest, having gone well behind a potential Group performer on his seasonal debut.
This is a riveting 3yo handicap with all of the runners progressive and/or in good form. Mark Johnston holds a particularly strong hand with Kondo Isami and Dancing King, who both command major respect (in that order of preference). An interesting alternative is the Richard Hannon-trained REVEREND HUBERT, whose Salisbury form has substance and who should relish this longer trip.

It’s worth giving another chance to TENBURY WELLS, who failed to give his running at Newmarket. He was sent off a warm favourite for that handicap on the back of a progressive 3yo campaign, and this first time on good to firm heightens interest when his dam was a champion in America who excelled on fast surfaces. Maiden Castle came well clear with a progressive rival at Windsor and, off a fair 6lb rise, he could be the main threat. Not that any of the seven can be dismissed with confidence.
Federal Agent would be very tempting if at all strong in the market but, as things stand, NEVER SAY NEVER is preferred to the exposed Mahale. The selection tanked through the race at Redcar last time so should have no trouble coping with this drop back to 5f.
This has a competitive look to it but POWER STATION (nap) is interesting after two very solid seconds this season, and with his latest Chepstow effort meriting an upgrade. Grantley brings solid credentials and he is the second choice, though Surprise Picture, Willyorwon’t He and Air To Air need respecting.
