There may be something that comes out of the woodwork and progresses past MILITARY MISSION but he’s consistent and sets a fair standard so this could be his day. Modestus is a newcomer of note, with The Hood and Fascinating Shadow also set to be involved.

Knight Salute is bred to stay very well and he could progress on his reappearance. Jaramillo and Saligo Bay also bring untapped potential but last month’s Windsor 1-2 Lord Protector and WAHRAAN may be the pair to focus on. First choice among those with experience is JASMINE JOY, who should build on her sole 2yo effort. Amy Beach looks a more reliable proposition than Betty Crean L A. However, the biggest danger to the selection may be interesting newcomer Pennymoor.

With several interesting types on show, this looks deeper than the first division. First choice is PRETTY FAIR, who is well bred and should build on her Kempton debut effort. Second choice Cedar’s Stars is respected on form, while Opening Scene and Tuscon Cloud are open to improvement. The newcomers include two fillies from the Gosden yard and a market check is essential.

Plenty of these are open to significant progress now that they move up in trip and none more so perhaps than EVALUATION, who is a son of the Ascot Gold Cup winner Estimate and got going too late from off the pace in a 1m2f novice stakes last time. Coldstream has had one go in a handicap already but could still be interesting with the extra distance and he is second on the list, with Rewired, Soapy Stevens and Rhebus Road among the others to look out for.

Youllovemewheniwin is well ahead of his mark after an emphatic win at Bath ten days ago but this is a stronger race and on different ground. Danzart and Alphonse Karr are respected but JOY CHOI (nap) impressed on her stable debut 13 days ago and she can make it 2-2 as a sprinter.

Lots of possibles in a wide-open handicap. Elegant Erin, James Park Woods, Ivadream, Newton Jack, Sir Roderic and Port Noir all have something to recommend them but at the likely prices it could be worth taking a chance on NICK VEDDER. Soft ground would be a possible cause for concern but he returns to the turf off a lower mark having had a good year on the AW, and this strong traveller is unlikely to be unduly inconvenienced by a race in which whips can’t be used. James Park Woods and Elegant Erin are feared most.
