It’s quarter finals day for the men’s Olympic football on Saturday. Spain and Brazil are the favourites to win the gold medal and the way the draw has worked out we could well see them in the final come August 7th. First though, they’ve both got to get there, let’s dig into the final eight and find some value.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

9am: Spain vs Ivory Coast – Both Teams to Score

Spain finished top of Group C with just one win and two draws from what was a very tough group, featuring Argentina and Egypt. They scored only two goals over their three games, conceding just one. Ivory Coast also won one and drew two, scoring three and conceding two.

The market has heavily backed the Spanish here but the Ivory Coast were able to keep second-favourites Brazil scoreless in their game and held Germany to a draw too so there’s no reason to not expect them to do well here. Indeed, they’ve scored more goals than Spain over the tournament so far and with it all to play for here we’re really liking the above Evens odds for Both Teams to Score especially for two sides brimming with talent in their ranks.

10am: Japan vs New Zealand – Japan to Win to Nil

Japan are the only side left with a perfect record with three wins from three in their Group Stage matches, scoring seven and conceding just one. New Zealand qualified second behind South Korea in Group B with one win, one draw and one loss, scoring three and conceding three. Japan should easily come out on top here and having had the best defence of the tournament so far, conceding just one goal, against a New Zealand side that have only scored three goals, Japan to Win to Nil is the way to go here.

11am: Brazil vs Egypt: Brazil to Win & Over 2.5 Goals

Brazil won two of their three group games, drawing the other one, scoring a total of seven while conceding three. Egypt qualified behind Spain in Group C, winning one, drawing one and losing one, scoring two and conceding one. Hard to see Egypt having much of a chance here, especially with their lack of goals and just scraping through to the qualifying round on goal difference.

In Brazil’s two victories they really turned up the heat on their opponents, beating Germany 4-2 and beating Saudi Arabia 1-3. As mentioned above Ivory Coast were able to keep them in check. Against this Egyptian side who went two games out of three without scoring they should run riot. We’re backing Brazil to Win and over 2.5 goals.

12pm: South Korea vs Mexico: Both Teams To Score

South Korea won two and lost one in their Group B matches, scoring 10 and conceding just one. Mexico also won two and lost one in their Group A matches, scoring eight and conceding three. Both teams have played some really great football so far, especially in South Korea’s 6-0 dismissal of Honduras and in Mexico’s 4-1 demolition of France in their opener.

Both sides are full of goals and attacking players and while the market has made Mexico the favourites we can’t pick a winner. We’re playing it safe here and going with Both Teams To Score.
