Premier League of Darts – Night Twelve

Just when you started to think Michael van Gerwen might be in trouble in this year’s Premier League, he takes all five points in Birmingham, ending Luke Littler’s winning streak in the process. The Dutchman won’t need any extra encouragement this week as HMS Premier League sets sail for Rotterdam – Ahoy!

The race for the Top 4 is hotting up, with Cross and Price in urgent need of some points if they’re to mount a challenge. Peter Wright isn’t totally out of it either – he can qualify for finals night at the O2, but in the same way that Manchester United can still get Top 4 and Sheffield Utd can stay up.

Let’s take a look at the quarter final lineups in Rotterdam.

7:15pm – Michael Smith v Luke Littler – #WhatOddsPaddy Up to 9/2: Both Players to Hit 3+ 180s Each

This will be the fifth meeting between Smith and Littler in the Premier League, with Smith leading the H2H 3-1 currently, although The Nuke sits nine points ahead of Billy Boy in the table, so he won’t be too fussed.
There have been 25 180s in the four games between these two (0.65 per leg), with both players amongst the top maximum-hitters in this year’s competition. Both players like to throw quickly and benefit from rhythm, so we should see a fast-paced encounter with some power scoring, making 3+ 180s each look an appealing bet.

7:45pm – Rob Cross v Gerwyn Price – Most 180s & Win Match: Gerwyn Price

If either of these two are going to make a move for the Top 4, they’re leaving it very late. Rob Cross finds himself seven points behind Nathan Aspinall in fourth, with Price one point further back. The winner of this one will make a step in the right direction, but still have plenty of catching up to do.

Gerwyn Price has looked much better in recent weeks, particularly with his scoring, hitting four or more 180s in six of his last eight Premier League matches. Rob Cross isn’t known for his scoring, managing more than two 180s in just one of his last seven games. Cross is never easy to beat, but Price is a worthy favourite for this one, and worth chucking in the Most 180s as well for a bigger price.

8:15pm – Peter Wright v Nathan Aspinall – Handicap: Nathan Aspinall to Win -1.5

With The Asp looking to sure up his position in fourth place, he couldn’t have asked for a better opponent this week. Peter Wright has won just two matches in this campaign, having lost both of his games vs Aspinall 6-4 and 6-2 so far.

Despite some improvement, Snakebite hasn’t reached a level where he’d be confident of getting a result here and Aspinall’s dogged style should be enough to grind out an important win in the context of his campaign.

(1.5)

8:45pm – Michael van Gerwen v Luke Humphries – Total Legs: Over 9.5

MvG and Humphries have won seven nights between them in this campaign, with Luke Littler the only other player to have managed more than one. Nevertheless, these two will be looking up at the youngster, determined to dislodge him from top spot and secure a more favourable (on paper) semi-final at the O2 next month.

With the Rotterdam support roaring him on, and fresh off the back of victory last week, it’s hard to look beyond van Gerwen for this one at a very appealing 5/4. To add to that, Humphries has been (by his own ridiculous standards) a bit out of sorts of late, with no 100+ average since Night 8. Regardless, this will surely be a close affair, with Over 9.5 legs impossible to ignore at that price.

If you wanted to back the Dutchman to put on a show for his home crowd, I’d be looking at Michael van Gerwen to Win the Match and Throw 3+ 180s at 7/2 in the #WhatOddsPaddy markets.

Van Gerwen to reach the final
Van Gerwen to win the night

Somewhat surprisingly, the Rotterdam leg hasn’t proved that successful for MvG recently, although he’s lost to the winner in each of the last two years. I think that 5/4 for MvG to beat Humphries is a bit too big, so I like the look of MvG to reach the final at over 2/1 and to win the night at 5/1 in the Outright market.
