13:20 – Bluegrass

Stuart Edmunds has his team in good nick and BLUEGRASS, who has gone the right way this spring, might prove the answer to this competitive opener. Useful on the Flat for Aidan O’Brien when he was third in the 2022 Dante, he was placed in a couple of handicaps at Huntingdon before getting off the mark in a maiden at Fakenham last time. Unexposed handicap newcomers Jackpot d’Athou and Phantomofthepoints head the many dangers along with the previous week’s Aintree fourth Lively Citizen.

13:50 – Shakeyatailfeather

SHAKEYATAILFEATHER hasn’t yet achieved as much as Irish raiders Innatendue and Lily du Berlais but her profile is a positive one and, not yet exposed for the excellent Dan Skelton yard, she looks the way to go in this mares’ maiden hurdle. In the frame in both her completed starts over hurdles, she ran her best race when a length and a half second to Wyenot in a mares’ novice at Kempton last time. Innatendue drops in class after contesting a handicap at the Dublin Racing Festival last time, while Lily du Berlais won the Grade 2 bumper at that fixture two years ago.

14:20 – Catch Him Derry

CATCH HIM DERRY made a winning handicap debut for Dan Skelton at Southwell before coming well clear with stablemate Gwennie May Boy (who has scored easily on both subsequent starts, including a valuable prize at Aintree last week), so he looks well in off 5 lb higher and should get back to winning ways. Lightly-raced novice Ten Lengths Tom is likely to improve markedly in trip for his handicap debut and Mt Fugi Park who has a similar proven but proven at the trip is also a danger in the biggest field on the card.

14:50 – Jet Plane

There are plenty with claims in this handicap chase with more than £25,000 to the winner but the vote goes to JET PLANE on what could be a very productive day for title-chasing Dan Skelton. After winning at Sandown, Jet Plane took his form up a notch when winning with plenty of authority at Market Rasen last week and can complete the hat-trick under his penalty. Sue Smith’s improving novice Prairie Wolf is feared most ahead of Outlaw Peter in what looks like a cracking renewal of this contest.

15:20 – Jagwar

In the hope that a hood helps him to settle, JAGWAR is the suggestion. Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero’s unexposed five-year-old did well all things considered when fourth at Uttoxeter last month, and he is probably capable of better than his current mark implies. Given that Nicky Henderson’s yard was under a cloud at the time of the Cheltenham Festival, Doddiethegreat’s effort in the Coral Cup can be forgiven and, that aside, he possesses a very appealing profile. Hugos New Horse and Theformismighty are others to consider.

15:55 – Royal Mer

ROYAL MER stylishly completed the hat-trick at Wincanton eleven days ago, and a 7 lb penalty may not prevent David Pipe’s six-year-old from collecting his sixth victory of a terrific campaign. He can get the better of Salamanca Bay, who channelled his energy much better in a first-time hood when scoring over course and distance just under six weeks ago. Rath Gaul Hill was another last-time-out scorer when winning hard held at Newbury and he completes the shortlist.

16:30 – Plaisir Des Flos

PLAISIR DES FLOS has shown much-improved form for Fergal O’Brien in novice handicaps on his last two starts, successful at Sedgefield before scoring with a bit in hand at Wincanton last time, and he can continue his progress to land the hat-trick. Billytherealbigred also arrives unbeaten since going handicapping and is respected in his bid for the four-timer after winning by wide margins in the mud twice, with easy Wincanton winner Don’t Tell Su also considered.

17:00 – Lihyan

LIHYAN shaped very well when left with too much ground to make up when runner-up to Welsh Charger at Musselburgh last time and he’s fancied to go one better here and register a second win of the season for Rebecca Menzies. Glen Cannel chased home an unexposed pair at Haydock last time and is entitled to be in the mix on that effort, whilst the step-in trip looks a positive move for handicap newcomer Benefit Ben after three runs at around two miles.
