13:30 – Encanto Bruno

Peaky Boy drew clear of a useful rival to win a C&D maiden on his hurdling debut in January and is not opposed lightly but slight preference is for ENCANTO BRUNO, who was seriously impressive here in October and can be excused his subsequent lesser efforts on testing ground. Leader In The Park and Diamond Ri are just two of the other good prospects in this very interesting opener.

14:05 – Sea Invasion

This is a significant rise in grade for SEA INVASION but the style in which he sauntered clear on the run-in at Plumpton last month suggests he could still be very well handicapped after a 7lb rise. He gets the vote ahead of Titan Discovery, who has made good progress in handicaps since the winter and might still be improving. Doyen Quest and Spring Note also have very appealing profiles.

14:40 – Idalko Bihoue

The starting point must be In Excelsis Deo (second choice), who was a big eyecatcher at the Festival and it now seems set in stone that this trip is the way forward. However, there are dangers aplenty, with Sail Away entering what is traditionally his most productive period of the season and Irish raider Final Orders finally getting less testing ground on a visit to Cheltenham. There’s also a lot to like about IDALKO BIHOUE, who was placed in a Grade 1 over hurdles and who looked a chaser to follow when winning easily here in October. His Kempton run at Christmas was well below what he’s capable of and he surely has more to offer as a chaser.

15:15 – Stellar Stream

Several of these warrant consideration but top of the list is STELLAR STREAM, who has thrived since upped to marathon trips and fitted with cheekpieces in February, and seems very versatile regarding the ground. Haston Clermont, Animal, Hymac and Betterforeveryone all have pretty good claims too but the one feared most is Planned Paradise, who has yet to strike form for Christian Williams but lurks on a dangerous marks and sports refitted cheekpieces.

15:50 – Harbour Lake

As competitive as the numbers suggest. HARBOUR LAKE could be interesting now venturing over 3m for the first time as there’s plenty of encouragement to take from his pedigree, and when fifth on his return to hurdling at Kempton he divided two Skelton horses who ran with great distinction last week at Aintree. Fergal O’Brien has two strong chances with Moon D’Orange and the returning Pull Again Green, the latter a winner at this meeting two years ago. Preference is for Moon D’Orange who has had the form of his novice win boosted in a big way. Proschema could easily run well under top weight.

16:25 – Some Scope

This can go to progressive 6yo SOME SCOPE (nap), who created a very good impression when winning at Doncaster two starts ago and lost out only to a revitalised and very determined front-runner in a major handicap there last month. Are U Wise To That was slightly disappointing on his latest outing but he made a bright start to his chasing career in the autumn and also still has potential. Stumptown needs to put last month’s disappointing Festival run behind him but is still considered, while Captain Cattistock also gets a mention, having won the last two editions of this race.

17:00 – In This World

Wide open. The vote narrowly goes to IN THIS WORLD, mucked about with at the start and end of another C&D class 3 last December yet still able to record a close (and closing) fifth. This remains his current sort of trip judged on last time’s fading 2m4f effort. Sussex Champion Hurdle scorer Our Champ (next best) harbours realistic claims of defying an 8lb rise assuming conditions don’t deteriorate markedly, Getaway Drumlee may have turned a corner in terms of settling better and can continue to improve accordingly, and Bold Reaction will surely find this run more to suit than last time.
