MATT CHAPMAN’S ITV RACING TIPS:

13:30 – Ascot – Ravens Ark
13:50 – Lingfield – Prenup
14:05 – Ascot – Timeless Melody
14:25 – Lingfield – Sacred
14.40 – Ascot – Fresh
15.00 – Lingfield – Eternal Hope
15.15 – Haydock – Byker
15.35 – Lingfield – Military Order

13.30 – ASCOT – RAVENS ARK

ITV Saturday gets under way here with a handicap over 1m4f. I’m going to chance RAVENS ARK in this for the very much in form Hughie Morrison team and Jason Hart. My hope is down to a mark of 80 for the new season and that’s workable. He stays 1m4f well and goes on soft ground. He also has a lovely raving weight with some decent in form animals at the top of the handicap. Risk taken.

13.50 – LINGFIELD – PRENUP

ITV also go to Lingfield Saturday for this handicap over 7f. The card is now on the all-weather rather than turf. PRENUP is handicapped to have every chance here for Jane Chappell-Hyam and Marco Ghiani. The recent Wolverhampton winner was a fair third at Chelmsford last time but the mile probably stretched my selection. This trip is much more suitable, and the only real worry is the fact you can often be slowly away at the start. On that basis, stall four looks ideal. Has every chance.

    14.05 – ASCOT – TIMELESS MELODY

    Another handicap this time for fillies over 1m. TIMELESS MELODY might not be chucked in off 80 on handicap debut but won going away over 7f at Leicester last time and this trip should bring about more improvement. That win came on heavy ground so conditions will be no issue and Adam Farragher takes off a useful 3lb for William Haggas.

    14.25 – LINGFIELD – SACRED

    Up in class here for the Group 3 Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes over 7f. SACRED has never run on an artificial surface before, but is the class act here for William Haggas and Ryan Moore. The Cheveley Park Stud horse once took part in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket, and has always had plenty of class. She pretty much goes on any ground, so hopefully she will take to this. Lingfield should suit her, because she likes to come with a late burst, so hopefully will power down the middle of the track.

    14.40 – ASCOT – FRESH

    A big betting race in the Victoria Cup over 7f. FRESH is back off 102, the mark he landed a big handicap at Ascot back in September of last year. It’s debatable whether he is better at 7f or 6f for James Fanshawe but a run at Kempton should have blown the cobwebs away and everything is in place for a big run under Danny Tudhope.

    15.00 – LINGFIELD – ETERNAL HOPE

    Here’s the Listed Oaks trial over nearly 1m4f. Hard to know what Classic clues we will get here on this surface. Bright Diamond has the best form but I will chance ETERNAL HOPE for William Buick and Charlie Appleby. The daughter of Teofilo has never raced on grass which is a plus and will appreciate this distance after landing a victory over a mile last time. Fingers crossed she has enough ability from a great draw.

    15.15 – HAYDOCK – BYKER

    ITV also show one from Haydock over jumps in this Swinton Handicap Hurdle over nearly 2m. BYKER is up 4lb for a second at Cheltenham to Jazzy Matty is the Boodles Juvenile Hurdle and he might well be good enough to land this prize for trainer Charles Byrnes who has a big fine to pay from earlier in the week! Philip Byrnes takes off a useful 5lb.

    15.35 – LINGFIELD – MILITARY ORDER

    Now the Listed Derby Trial over nearly 1m4f. MILITARY ORDER is one of the big Godolphin hopes for the Derby and has to be the selection for William Buick and Charlie Appleby. He looked good when staying on strongly and making all the running at Newbury last time and if he’s got any chance at Epsom has to run huge here in a fascinating field.
