13:30 – Haydock – Bubble Dubi
ITV go jumps racing at Haydock Saturday starting with this handicap hurdle over nearly 2m and there are many exposed horses in here. One who might be improving is BUBBLE DUBI for Ciaran Gethings and Stuart Edmunds. The recent Stratford winner has only had seven races and scored well off 112 last time. He’s up to 117 but that’s not a crazy rise and conditions should be fine for a big effort.
13:50 – Musselburgh – Dumfries
Flat racing fans on ITV are treated to Scottish action beginning with this handicap over 1m for three-year-old’s. There are lots of lightly raced unexposed horses here who could well improve. I’m sticking with the recent Southwell scorer DUMFRIES for Derby hero Marcus Tregoning and Hayley Turner. The colt has shown a bit of form on turf already and clearly is getting better with every start. He only carries 8st 8lb and he might be able to improve again. The draw is not great but it could be worse.
14:25 – Musselburgh – Northern Express
Now we have a handicap over 7f. Gweedore won this for my blog last year at 10-1 but he is up 7lb this time. That said, Billy Loughnane is taking off 5lb so I suspect connections mean business. There will be a strong gallop and the one who might sit in behind and pounce is NORTHERN EXPRESS for Michael Dods and Connor Beasley. My hope ran a really good race when last seen in October at York when seventh in a big field. He was second to Gweedore last year but is 4lb better off and I’ve got high hopes.
14:40 – Haydock – Sam Barton
This is a handicap chase over an extended 3m1f. It’s not been a season to remember for Emma Lavelle but I suspect SAM BARTON will give Tom Bellamy a good spin. I remember liking this horse when he ran at Chepstow on his second start and he always looked like he had some quality. In many ways he hasn’t done as well as I hoped, but he ran well enough at Newbury last time and goes off the same mark. He’s likely to go from the front.

15:00 – Musselburgh – Zarzyni
Now a competitive sprint handicap over 5f. ZARZYNI landed this off 99 in 2022 and goes from 97 here. As well as that run he also had a fine third in a Heritage Handicap at Ascot. His form tailed off after that but he seems to go well fresh and I suspect the Barron stable will have him revved up for this under Ben Curtis. Stall six looks ideal too.
15:15 – Haydock – Hyland
A handicap hurdle over an extended 3m. HYLAND stepped up to this distance last time for Nicky Henderson and ran a really good second keeping on well in defeat. He’s gone up 3lb for that which seems a bit harsh but hopefully he can improve further and having Nico de Boinville on top is a positive. In a tough heat to sort out he must have a decent chance.
15:35 – Musselburgh – East Asia (each way)
The Queen’s Cup Handicap over 1m6f. EAST ASIA is high in the weights now but this might work out for him to pounce late. He will be smuggled out the back by Cieren Fallon in a handicap where there should be a strong gallop. My selection has a much lower rating on the all-weather so his last run will have just put him right for this test and I’m hoping he has an each-way chance from off the pace for Ian Williams.
So best of luck and hope for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
