Something of a veterans’ handicap and all have question marks hanging over them. Eye Of The Water may be able to get his own way in a race full of hold-up performers, but eight seconds and seven thirds since his last win tells its own story, while Madrinho and serial slow starter Split Elevens have always been best coming from off a good pace. Peachey Carnehan should run his usual honest race but it could be worth chancing DARK SHOT‘s stamina off a career-low mark.
17:30 – Prospering
Spring Day made a good start with her strong-finishing win over 6f on Polytrack in September and she could be a major force again under a penalty on her return. Saturnalia is respected after his eyecatching debut second at Lingfield last week, while newcomer Rogue Thunder looks interesting for a yard that had a 29% strike-rate in novice events last year. However, the vote goes to PROSPERING, who sets the standard on his near miss at Chelmsford 16 days ago and is open to more progress back up in trip.
NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?
18:00 – Rowdown Roza
None come into this in better form than Tennessee Dream but her penalty and the outside stall may be enough to scupper the hat-trick bid. Skyblue Expert has also shown that he knows how to win and, despite an uneven profile, his best form would give him every chance. However, the vote goes to ROWDOWN ROZA, despite her being a 12-race maiden, as the form of her last two starts gives her solid claims in this company. Handicap debutante Wiccan is another to consider.
18:30 – Alafdhal
Top of the list is the highly progressive 5yo ALAFDHAL, who cruised into contention before surging clear at Chelmsford last time and is a major player again in his bid to make it five wins from his last six starts. Second choice is the lightly raced Libra Tiger, who made a good start for his new yard when justifying favouritism at Kempton two weeks ago. Dual course winner Araifjan looks interesting on his step back up in trip, while others who could make a serious impact are Porfin and El Hombre.
19:00 – Tommytwohoots
Chelsea Banham won a division of this last year and her Oxygen Thief is the obvious starting point in a weak affair (half the field are rated 44 or lower) after a much-improved effort back from seven months off recently. Preference, though, is for TOMMYTWOHOOTS, who goes well here, offered more last time and sports first-time headgear. Elisheva is worth a look in the market having joined David O’Meara.
19:30 – Inaam
Jumira Bridge and San Juan, who are drawn top and bottom of the shop, can both miss the kick and will need the breaks if dropped in as usual. In that case INAAM, a prolific winner in the winter months down the years, looks the safest option having raced freely on his return from a three-month break over 7f last time. Viewfromthestars could be the one to give him most to do if more amenable now switched to a hood.
FANCY A CHANCE TO WIN £/€25K FOR FREE?
20:00 – Smart Boyo (NAP)
A few of these have met each other lately. Robeam, who’s 6lb lower than when successful over C&D in September 2021, is worth a second look, while Ghostly remains on a fair mark and is another to consider. However, SMART BOYO (NAP) looks the safest option having finished runner-up in his last three starts over this trip on Tapeta. He seems very likely to run his race and that can make the difference.
20:30 – Starfighter
This looks tight. Ex-Irish Cinco Saltos is interesting on stable debut, as is Order Of St John whose last appearance on the Flat was when chasing home a thriving filly over C&D in October. Hashtagmetoo and Hooves Like Jagger are also respected under conditons they handle well, but preference is for STARFIGHTER who is 1-1 over C&D and should appreciate the return to this venue for his in-form yard.
