12:55 Paddy Brunty
A race where the betting is sure to provide more clues. PADDY BRUNTY has a useful and sharp pedigree so he gets a tentative vote for the George Boughey team. Richard Fahey and Kevin Ryan have both enjoyed recent success in this and Dyed In The Wool and Pride Of Yorkshire are two others who make plenty of appeal on paper.

13:30 Deputy
Thornaby Pearl should have more to come this year, but it could be worth taking a chance on DEPUTY making a winning start for his new trainer who has such a good record with sprinters and has won this race, or a division of it, three times in the recent years. Ginato can also be involved along with Shallow Hal, while Singe Anglais has possibilities on 2021 form.
14:05 Prince Of Bel Lir
The draw is something of a mystery here nowadays but the better early pace looks middle to high. Le Cheval Rapide had a torrid 2021 but a wind operation could revive his fortunes and he still has time on his side. Dream Together will be a contender if stall 2 proves no hindrance, while After John and Yukon Mission both have something to recommend them. PRINCE OF BEL LIR didn’t progress from a winning reappearance last spring but he kicks off his new campaign off a handy mark and may prove the answer.
14:40 Mutasaabeq
A smart conditions event. A win on debut as a juvenile and on his 3yo reappearance show that MUTASAABEQ is capable when fresh and he’s narrowly preferred to Symbolize, who ran two crackers in good Ascot handicaps last autumn.
15:15 High Velocity (NAP)
His winning spree ground to a halt at Wolverhampton last time but returning to 5f could see HIGH VELOCITY (nap) resume his progress. In a trappy event, the main threats could be posted by Catch Cunningham and Edward Cornelius.
15:50 State Of Bliss
Quite an interesting race, albeit one in which peak fitness has to be taken on trust with the majority. STATE OF BLISS starts 2022 on a nice mark based on his Shergar Cup win last summer so he’s the suggestion on his first outing since a gelding operation. Fellow 4yos Contact (second choice) and Forza Orta could still have their best days ahead of them, while it all came together for Emiyn last autumn and he’s also respected.
16:30 Broadspear
The Roger Varian-trained BROADSPEAR finished merely in mid-division in the Convivial Maiden at York last time out in August but he’s in a much easier race today and he went close on his debut at Salisbury in June. He gets the nod ahead of Manaslu, who showed promise amid inexperience on November’s debut at Wolverhampton. Drill To Dream is another whose sole 2yo performance gives her something to build on.
17:00 Blazing Son
By the time this race is run there may have been draw clues earlier on the card but the very best pace does look to be low. Ballycommon is interesting after a break and can go well, while Toptime is another with a single-figure stall to have something to recommend them. The three runners of most interest are all drawn high, however, and BLAZING SON may be able to get the better of Hot Scoop and Unashamed.
