The juvenile COOLNAUGH HAZE was placed off today’s mark in a soft-ground C&D event on last month’s handicap debut and, given his earlier maiden win was recorded on good ground, there is hope he can better that recent effort now he’s back on a sound surface. Fontana Ellissi has remained in good form since his win in early February and is next on the list, ahead of Just The Man.

His fitness needs to be taken on trust today but FAINT HOPE ran very well in defeat behind a dual subsequent winner in September on his latest outing and gets the nod. Equus Millar is patently not the force of old but he’s on a good mark now and comes here after a close second at Kempton last month. Crystal Gazing is next on the list.
Habitual front-runner Bletchley Castle will be suited by today’s return to good ground and, after two good runs here this year, he is arguably the one with least to prove. However, Paul Nicholls’ runner STRATAGEM has more than a touch of class about him and will be far too strong for this field if able to bounce back from his disappointing hunter chase debut in January. Solomon Grey also has a part to play.
