13:15 – HASTY PARISIAN

HASTY PARISIAN showed plenty to work on when second on his hurdling debut at Warwick in January and he ran to a similar level when once again hitting the frame at Doncaster last time. He was beaten only three lengths on Town Moor despite clearly finding the test too sharp, doing all his best work late on in the style of one who may yet have more to offer. He will appreciate the extra emphasis on stamina at this stiff track and a BHA mark of 107 looks a good starting point to life in handicaps.

13:50 – PEEJAYBEE

PEEJAYBEE looked a useful prospect when winning a handicap over this course and distance in February, keeping on well on the run-in to land the spoils by nine lengths. He was then sent off at very short odds and didn’t need to improve to follow up back in a novice hurdle at Sedgefield last time, always doing just enough to see off inferior rivals. This represents by far his toughest test yet, but he is clearly going the right way and a 7 lb higher mark than when winning here last month might not be enough to stop him in his hat-trick bid.

14:25 – LUCKY ONE

LUCKY ONE showed little on his first two starts for Dan Skelton, but he hinted at a revival when third on his latest outing at Ascot, even if ultimately well held by the principals. A useful hurdler at his best when trained by Paul Nicholls, Lucky One is potentially well treated from a BHA mark of 125 if getting back to that level and it’s surely only a matter of time before he’s winning races for Skelton, who won this prestigious handicap 12 months ago with Langer Dan.

15:00 – LUCCIA

LUCCIA made a very promising start to her career when easily winning a bumper at Warwick in January, storming clear in the straight to win by six and a half lengths. That form puts her right in the mix on these terms and Luccia is likely to progress further with the run under her belt. Therefore, she rates a solid selection to maintain her unbeaten record for Nicky Henderson, who can boast an impressive 25% strike rate at Sandown since the start of the 2016/17 season.

15:35 – SCENE NOT HERD

SCENE NOT HERD made it three from three over fences with a comfortable victory at Ludlow in December, jumping impeccably throughout and responding well to pressure to see off the prolific Minella Trump by three lengths. This will be tougher from a 5 lb higher mark, but there should be better to come from Scene Not Herd and he has gone well fresh in the past. He looks sure to give another good account as he tries to make it four wins in a row.

16:10 – POWERSTOWN PARK

POWERSTOWN PARK produced a career-best effort to get his head back in front at Hereford in January, not winning by far but looking value for extra following a mistake at the second last. That was a useful performance and Powerstown Park remains relatively unexposed over staying trips, so it will be no surprise if he still has a bigger effort in the locker. He is fancied to defy another 6 lb rise in the weights here to follow up for Sam Thomas.

16:45 – NOCTE VOLATUS

NOCTE VOLATUS was well on top at the finish when resuming winning ways at Huntingdon last week, quickening clear in the straight to land the spoils by six and a half lengths (had a bit in hand). This will be a quick turnaround, but it’s easy to make the case for Nocte Volatus if he arrives here in the same sort of form. He is certainly well handicapped under just a 7 lb penalty and Tom Lacey, who has his team in top form at present (five winners from last 15 runners), should be able to eke out a bit more improvement between now and the end of the season.
