13:10 – An Tailliur

Another competitive renewal of this conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle with some unexposed sorts on show, notably AN TAILLIUR and Skatman. The former extended his winning sequence to five in most taking fashion at Exeter last month, once more scoring with much more in hand than the offical margin suggests. The bigger field and likely strong pace could bring about even more improvement in this strong-travelling type and he remains a handicapper to keep firmly on side. Skatman beat two subsequent winners on his return at Newton Abbot and an opening mark of 122 could prove lenient.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

13:45 – Magic Saint

MAGIC SAINT won this race from the same mark 12 months ago on his second start of the season and it could be a case of history repeating itself. He didn’t build on that success as expected, but as a result fell back down the weights and, having had a second breathing operation during his seven-month break, he very much left the impression he would come on for the run at Wetherby a fortnight ago. The return to two miles will also suit Magic Saint and, still only a seven-year-old, he seems sure to launch another bold bid. Editeur du Gite probably did too much in front at Ascot last time, and was very tired when unseating his rider, but is entitled to be sharper for that outing, so is feared most.

14:20 – My Drogo

This how now developed into a match and preference is very much in favour of MY DROGO, who finished last season as one of the best novice hurdlers around after his victory in the Grade 1 Mersey Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree in April. He has all the attributes to make up into an even better chaser and, though he makes his debut in this sphere against one with smart form in the shape of Gin On Lime, My Drogo looks an outstanding prospect and deserves to be a short-priced favourite.

14:55 – Balko Des Flos

BALKO DES FLOS‘ big run in the Grand National at Aintree remains fresh in the mind and, having had a prep-run at Galway recently, he should be ready to put up another bold bid now back on the banks. Fellow Irish raider Freewheelin Dylan is a danger, while Back On The Lash is one to note based on his excellent strike rate over fences to this point.

15:30 – Off Your Rocco

This looks a good renewal of this Grade 2 for novice hurdlers, chock-full of potential, and the vote goes to the Gordon Elliott-trained OFF YOUR ROCCO. He looked a good prospect when winning his sole start in bumpers and duly made a winning start over hurdles in May. He quickly dispelled a poor run when resuming winning ways fitted with cheekpieces at Listowel in September and proved his stamina for this trip when recording a third win over hurdles in a listed event at Limerick last month. This looks the logical next step and he should have even more to offer. Gelino Bello powered clear to score in impressive fashion on hurdling debut at Aintree 19 days ago, a performance which is backed up by the timefigure, and he clearly is very promising, too.

16:00 – Kavanaghs Cross

A host of unexposed sorts in opposition in an ultra-competitive finale with the narrow vote in favour of KAVANAGHS CROSS. Despite remaining winless over hurdles, he arrives having run his best race yet when edged out late on at Carlisle recently, and he’s of definite interest from this sort of mark. Howdyalikemenow, Brorson, City Derby and Samba Dancer head up the list of dangers.
