There’s more strength in depth to this race than most novice hurdles and it’s difficult to rule out many of the contenders with confidence. Bobhopeornohope and Flash Collonges made winning starts to their hurdling careers in different divisions of the novice at Exeter 24 days ago and both should be thereabouts again. French Paradoxe would have gone close to making a successful hurdling debut himself with a better round of jumping at Wetherby and rates a danger, but, in the hope that wind surgery does the trick, GOSHEVEN is taken to confirm the promise of several good runs in defeat.

The progressive CATCHMEIFYOUCAN had more in hand than her winning margin at Market Rasen last week and gets the nod in an open race. Perhaps the biggest danger is Evenstevens, who boasts some solid form and may benefit from cheekpieces. Fawsley Spirit is dangerous for an in-form yard, while Ah Well may find some improvement for today’s longer distance.

13:25 Cracking Find

In a well-contested race of its type, course winner CRACKING FIND is the choice. Well handicapped on his best form, he gives the impression he’s coming to the boil and should find conditions right up his street. Dr Sanderson, the youngest in the field, is dangerous after making a comfortable winning reappearance in a weaker race at Plumpton, while The Unit should go close if building on his promising fourth at Wetherby last month.

Having skipped clear to win in good style when upped to 2m4f at Uttoxeter in August, there could be more to come from HELLO BOB at this sort of trip. The 3yo Peat Moss could pose the main threat having shaped as though he may improve for today’s step up in trip. The unexposed Candy Lou is next on the list having run well in her first two handicaps, with Espinator, Barnay and Jessica Rabbit others who could run well.

He’s the selection ahead of the well-handicapped Irish raider Aasleagh Dawn, with Champagne Noir next on the list.

Of those with experience, last month’s Ascot fifth San Giovanni is perhaps the pick, but several interesting newcomers catch the eye. Nina The Terrier, whose 10lb claimer Max Browne is 1-2 in bumpers, is tempting but the vote goes to GREAT GABLE from a yard having a fine season in this sphere. Iontach Cheval, Mont Saint Vincent and Norvics Reflection are three others to consider.
