The first golf major of the season is finally here. We’ve got four cracking days of action at Augusta for The Masters 2023.
Can Scottie Scheffler make it back-to-back wins or is the green jacket going elsewhere? Maybe it’s time for Rory McIlroy to shine?
We’ve got PPTV’s Justin Kenny on hand to discuss Rory McIlroy’s chances at Augusta as well as looking at the Northern Irishman’s likelihood of winning more than one major this season.
The Masters is the first of the 2023 Majors. Do you think anybody can come close to completing a clean sweep of all four or is it too difficult to achieve these days?
History shows that it’s a difficult task and with the calibre of the current crop of players, it makes it almost impossible to pull off. For me though, Rory McIlroy is up there with the greats and if I fancy him for this year’s Masters, then I have to say Rory perhaps can achieve the impossible.
The fact that he has won The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool in 2014, which is the venue for this year’s Open Championship, helps his chances. He’s 13/1 to win at least two Majors in 2023 which looks excellent value.

Who is your main fancy for the Masters & why?
I firmly believe Rory McIlroy’s time is now. He comes into this year’s Masters with no excuses and all aspects of his game are in top order.
Off the tee is crucial for Rory around Augusta and the recent change to his driver is vital with accuracy and distance showing up really well at the recent WGC Matchplay. I think that Rory has finally figured out that Augusta National is a course that is made for his game.

Most backed players?
Scottie Scheffler is up there and he’s been closely followed by Rory McIlroy as the most popular golfer with punters and between now and next Thursday’s start, McIlroy could very well be the best backed golfer for the first Major of the year as he bids to win the green jacket for the very first time.
