Golf Tips: Why 13/2 Rory McIlroy is worth backing at Masters 2023

McIlroy can take home the only Major he's yet to win this very weekend in Augusta.

IThe 2023 Masters is finally upon us, and Justin Kenny from PPTV is backing a home favourite to get the job done, and here he explains why…

What a tournament we have to look forward to.

We’re looking at outright winners in this article but, for me there’s only one winner, and that is Rory McIlroy.

Why, you might ask. Well, there are a couple of reasons. Obviously, last year’s final round I think is going to prove crucial, where he carded a 64 and in doing so finished second.

We all remember that – it was one of the great final rounds in the history of the Masters. His record at Augusta also speaks for itself. He’s had six top-10s in his 13 appearances over the years. 

I think he comes into this year’s event as good as he’s ever been. Obviously, at every event he’s vying for World No.1 status and his recent victories over the last 12 months have shown that his game is right up there as good as it’s ever been.

His age profile suits in terms of winning a first Masters as well, and it’s hard to believe that it’s the only Major that he hasn’t won yet, because for many this course is tailor-made for Rory’s game.

Regarding recent match play, a couple of weeks back he was unbelievable in terms of his scrambling. He was right up there which is crucial for the undulations around Augusta and the greens.

His iron play was on point too. His second shot into the green was also at a top level, and more importantly, his recent change to a new driver showed up really well during recent match play, which is simply vital around the Augusta National.

He’s led in all categories in terms of accuracy and distance off the tee. 

So I think McIlroy comes into this year’s Masters in as good a shape as he could possibly be, and it’s only a matter of time before he wins the Masters.

For me it’s going to be this week. He’ll be in the final groups on Sunday, and for me there’s only one winner of the 2023 Masters. Rory McIlroy will be donning the Green Jacket come Sunday evening.
