Sunday 2pm: Nottingham Forest v West Ham
TV: Sky Sports Main Event/Sky Sports Premier League

Nottingham Forest to Win

Nottingham Forest were underwhelming to say their least in their first Premier League game in 23 years as they went down to a 2-0 defeat at Newcastle in their campaign opener last weekend.

Forest barely registered a shot in anger against Newcastle in what was one of the most one-sided 2-0 victories in recent memory.

However, they are almost certainly going to raise their level for their first top-flight game at the City Ground in more than two decades.

The Forest fans will be in full voice for the visit of West Ham on Sunday, which should be a memorable occasion. West Ham also barely laid a glove on their opponents in their Premier League opener, although their 2-0 defeat to a clinical Manchester City team is far more excusable.

The Hammers have strengthened over the summer and will hope to improve on their 7th-placed finish last season, but there is a sense that they have missed their chance to challenge for the Champions League. They face a tricky task against a Forest side that has gone unbeaten at home in the league in 2022, winning their last seven games at the City Ground.

Forest will be buoyed on by a raucous home support, which might be enough to see them continue their excellent home form, condemning West Ham to their second defeat on the bounce.

Brennan Johnson to Score Anytime

Brennan Johnson was largely anonymous during Forest’s Premier League opener, but the exciting Welsh talent is one of the main reasons why Steve Cooper’s side find themselves back in the top flight. Johnson was Forest’s top scorer with 19 goals in all competitions, including two in the play-off semi-finals against Sheffield United.

Forest have added a number of attacking players to their ranks over a busy summer transfer window, but Johnson remains the most threatening of them and can hurt West Ham with his pace on Sunday.

Both Teams to Score

Forest also signed a number of defenders over the summer but did not look defensively stable against Newcastle in their opening game.

Cooper’s side had the second-best defensive record in the Championship last season but have already witnessed the step up in class that the Premier League represents.

The influx of new signings will also take time to gel into a cohesive defensive unit and West Ham will undoubtedly cause problems on Sunday. The Hammers are brimming with attacking talent following the acquisitions of Gianluca Scamacca and Maxwel Cornet over the summer and should register their first Premier League goal of the season against Forest on Sunday at the very least.

Forest may have to score twice if they want to taste victory in the top-flight for the first time in 23 years.

Maxwel Cornet to Have Two or More Shots on Target

Cornet was not signed on time to make the matchday squad for West Ham’s defeat to City last weekend, but the Ivorian winger should make his debut at the City Ground on Sunday.

West Ham signed the talented winger from Burnley for a cut price following the Claret’s relegation last season and it could prove to be one of the signings of the summer.

Cornet scored nine goals in 21 starts for a struggling Burnley outfit last season and is the main reason that their relegation battle even reached the final day. He attempted more than two shots per game, averaging just over one shot on target per 90 minutes while playing in a defensive side.

He is likely to considerably improve on that average while playing in a more attacking and adventurous team and is good value to test Dean Henderson on at least two occasions.
