16:00: Belinda Bencic v Iga Swiatek – Bencic to Win

Interesting tie here between the 7th and 11th seed. Both players are obviously coming in to the round of 16 with a bit of form and the market is finding it hard to separate them. For me though, I am going to take the chance on the Olympic champion Bencic being in better nick.

Bencic defeated an array of top class players to claim Olympic Gold and hasn’t really let up since, only losing one match to compatriot Jil Teichmann in the Cincinnati masters quarter-final. Other than that she has been winning matches convincingly, reaching that quarter-final without dropping a set and reaching this round of 16 tie without dropping a set.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Swiatek, on the other hand, has been looking far more vulnerable since we made the switch to hard courts. She went out in the second round of the Olympics to Paula Badosa and then got knocked out in the first round of Cincinnati by Ons Jabeur. While both players are to be respected, these losses may be signalling Swiatek’s game isn’t quite there.

Furthermore, she has been taken to a decider in the last two rounds of this tournament by players she shouldn’t really be having trouble with. Swiatek does have a 1-0 record against Bencic after beating her at the start of the year in Adelaide but I do suspect the Swiss to level matters though as she has seems to have found the form that made her a top five player previously.

18:00: Reilly Opelka v Lloyd Harris – Set 1 Total Games Over 12.5

I can only really see this being a tight affair and I expect a close first set. I’m going to chance that it’ll need a tiebreak to decide the winner. Both these big servers will not expect to be broken and get a second chance at a set so holding serve will be even more crucial than ever.

They played each other quite recently in Toronto and there was only one service break across the three sets so it is quite easy to imagine that they might go the whole first set without a service break here.

There was two tiebreakers in that match and Opelka’s last five matches have all gone to a first set tiebreak so with the recent trends I’m willing to chance it again.

19:00: Shelby Rogers v Emma Raducanu – Rogers 2-0 Set Betting

It’s hard to quantify just how good Emma Raducanu is at this current moment even though she may well have the tennis world at her feet. For me though I am going to delay buying into the hype just yet.

She has yet to beat someone in the world’s top 40 and now she faces the world number 42, who herself is just after beating the world number 1. Raducanu is an exciting prospect but I can’t quite agree with her being a clear favourite in this match-up.

I’m happy to take the player almost 100 places higher in the rankings with a home crowd behind her with the recent confidence boost of beating the world number 1 at odds against. For those a bit more daring, I suggest Rogers to do it without dropping a set.
