Will this be the last John Lewis Christmas ad of owl time?

Owl aboard the hype train...

The countdown is over, the children will be excitedly going to bed early this evening, and the whole world is ready for some festive viewing tomorrow.

Yes, Thursday is ‘John Lewis Xmas Ad Day’. Which is almost as catchy as the advert’s inevitably spine-tingling soundtrack.

But we reckon that this could be the last year the internet enjoys this modern Christmas tradition – offering odds of 20/1 that John Lewis DON’T run a festive advert in 2018.

They have also priced up which animal will star in this year’s eagerly awaited advert, which is expected to appear online on Thursday and then on TV on Saturday, with owl the odds-on favourite (1/2), ahead of cat (5/2), dog (8/1), polar bear (12/1) and reindeer (25/1).

While the song covered in the ad is 6/1 to be Christmas number one – a market where a Wham/George Michael re-release is the favourite (6/4).

Spokesman Paddy Power said: “Tis the season to make loads of lolly, as John Lewis wheel out their latest merchandise-selling masterplan advert, which is now eagerly awaited by millions.

“Personally, I think this is a damning indictment of modern consumerism – oh, and X Factor’s sob stories failing to make people cry anymore.”
