17:05 – American Belle

There is probably more to come from Pop World and Eagle Day on their handicap debuts, especially from the former who looked a nice prospect in her two starts as a 2yo. She has to be respected especially if popular in the market, but the selection is AMERICAN BELLE whose Chelmsford success last time suggests she is continuing to progress and who seemed to handle turf well enough at the start of her career.

17:40 – Embesto

There are some fascinating newcomers amongst this field, with Soowaih and Unlimited especially interesting. Market support for either should be noted, while Carbis Bay and Halla Dubai have shown enough to suggest that races can be won with them. However, two of the three previous runnings of this race have gone to horses who had won their only previous start and both Modesty and EMBESTO fit that criterion.

The former could have done no more when winning well at York last autumn and he holds two Group 1 entries, but it was hard not to have been impressed by the way the latter went about it when winning at Yarmouth last month. The stable won this race with a similar type two years ago.

18:15 – Siam Fox

Course winner SIAM FOX has scored on two of his five starts since joining Kevin Frost and can continue the good work with another victory. Diamondonthehill is feared most now back up in trip, ahead of La Trinidad and Copper And Five.

18:45 – Hasty Sailor

A few of these have something to prove in one way or another. Educator should be happier back on a sound surface and could go well, while a similar remark applies to Aimeric on his return albeit this trip may be sharp enough. The solid one is HASTY SAILOR who is 2lb higher than when just beaten at Newmarket last time, but he remains unexposed on turf and a repeat of that latest effort may be enough.

19:15 – Perfuse

The three previous winners all have plenty to recommend them. Windsor winner Circuit Breaker remains open to any amount of improvement, while Inquiring Minds should be more suited to this galloping track than when last in the Lingfield Derby Trial. However, despite the different conditions the vote goes to the impressive Nottingham scorer PERFUSE, who looks the type to keep on improving with racing.

19:45 – Rathbone

Although Ventura Express is 1lb well in under a penalty for his impressive Pontefract win a week ago, his record of 0-16 over 6f does raise questions. Marks’s Choice and Oso Rapido have become well handicapped so have to be considered, but the vote goes to same course and distance (C&D) winner RATHBONE who is another favourably treated having dropped 8lb below his last winning mark. The return to ground on the fast side of good is very much in his favour.

20:15 – Bravura

Bulldog Spirit has be high on the list given that he is due a 3lb rise for his narrow defeat at Windsor recently, while Another Run can show his performance on bottomless ground at Leicester to be all wrong. However, four of the last six runnings of this have gone to a handicap newcomer and can do so again courtesy of BRAVURA. Sir Mark Prescott’s gelding showed ability on the AW, but that was a bonus as his breeding strongly suggests he will relish this greater test of stamina. The stable was also responsible for the horse who beat Bulldog Spirit at Windsor.

20:50 – Bookmark (NAP)

Lexington Knight has to be high on the list being 1lb well in for his narrow defeat at Windsor 11 days ago, while a return to a faster surface may result in a better performance from the well-handicapped Sword Beach. However, the return to this venue makes BOOKMARK (NAP) look an attractive proposition having dropped 3lb lower than for the latest of two C&D wins on similar ground last year. Her latest narrow defeat at Wolverhampton suggested she was running back into form.
