Pontefract 15:00 – Sun King

Sun King made a pleasing enough debut for George Boughey at Kempton when finishing fifth but only a length down from the winner in a bunched finish. He should suit the step back up in trip and the return to turf. The yard have also been getting a lot absolutely spot on at the moment. He looks a very interesting runner off a decent mark with plenty of scope for improvement.

Pontefract 15:35 – Ventura Rascal

1.5 points each way

Ventura Rascal was a winner of a class 2 claimer over course and distance last season and is now in a class 5 at a double figure price, so he’s pretty hard to ignore. It’s a seasonal debut but he has run well fresh previously and looks well handicapped. He has had wind surgery since and we are definitely taking a chance on his fitness but if he’s right, then he’s overpriced.

Windsor 15:45 – Spoof

3 points win

We struggle to see Spoof not winning. He will strip fitter than most of these having had a few runs this season – and some decent efforts too. He was unlucky last time out when he didn’t get the clearest of runs and still finished a very close short neck second. He’s just 1lb higher and was third here last summer from a 2lb higher mark. Talented jockey Alec Voikhansky is in the saddle and takes off 7lbs too.

Hexham 16:00 – Five Dollar Fine

1.5 points each way

Five Dollar Fine looks to have a very good chance. He ran well in a novices at the back end of last year but then disappointed on his handicap debut off a mark of 105 over a longer trip. He then finished fifth two weeks ago over a trip that looked too short and this distance is what he’s been crying out for. He drops again to a mark of 103 and Conor Rabbitt’s 7lb claim has him effectively off a mark of 96. He should be in contention.
