Cheltenham 13:30 – Coole Cody
1.5 points each way
It might be a leap of faith but Coole Cody showed enough in the Plate that he is still plenty good enough to be winning races at this level and he now gets in off a 5lb lower mark. The form of that Plate run has already started to work out well with horses who finished behind Coole Cody dominating a handicap at Aintree at the weekend. I like Heltenham a lot but he’s a bit skinny now and makes his Cheltenham debut so I’m going to swerve him this time around.
Newmarket 13:50 – Playupskyblues
1.5 points each way
Playupskyblues looks overpriced. He showed some nice improvement last time out to win at Redcar and this type of test should really suit this unexposed three-year-old for an Alice Haynes yard in red hot form. It was soft ground that day but he run well on a better surface two starts back so not too concerned about the weather. He showed a good attitude in the last win and he put his head down and motored away which is always a very pleasing sign. If ready to roll, which has been the case for this yard, then he’s got a great chance.
Cheltenham 14:05 – Lallygag
1.5 points each way
Lallygag looks well handicapped based his form. He’s been a bit of a winning machine in his eight starts and he hasn’t really finished out the frame on any of his other starts either. It’s his first Cheltenham run but he has been a regular at Exeter. He’s been kept fresh since February so he should be ready to roll against some horses who’ve had tougher seasons. He’s down in class and for Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden, he’s a player.
Newmarket 14:25 – Aleezdancer
1.5 points each way
Aleezdancer is already a winner for us this season at Doncaster when winning very impressively on soft ground and a 7lb rise might not be enough to stop this progressive four-year-old. He should hold a fitness edge over some of his rivals and the favourite Probe is very easy to oppose. His only Newmarket start was in a hot race as a two-year-old and the test here should be up his street. He looks to have a great chance of following up.
Cheltenham 14:40 – Madera Mist & Blame The Game
1.5 points each way
Madera Mist seems to really like it around Cheltenham with both of her chase wins coming here, as well as a second place. She is running off 102, which is the same mark as her second place finish and she has won off a mark of 100 previously. She carries a very low weight which should work in her favour for a long distance race. She is also having her second run since wind surgery. Blame The Game had won four from five starts before going down a neck in the Sussex National. He then had a couple of months break before unseating his rider at the last at Plumpton in February. He very well may have needed that run as a sharpener. He comes back from another short break and if spot on for this, he will be bang in contention.
