Doncaster 13.50 – Loaded Gun

The Flat is back with a bang on ITV Saturday starting with the Brocklesby novice race for youngsters over 5f. Obviously a guessing game for most and that’s me included. I’ll take a chance with LOADED GUN for Andrew Balding and David Probert. The selection is bred to go a little further in time being by Magna Grecia but is related to two-year-old winners and cost a few quid as a yearling at 75,000 euros. Related to Another Bertie who was quick.

Kempton 14.05 – Secret State

ITV also show racing from Kempton on Saturday starting with the Listed Magnolia Stakes over 1m2f. SECRET STATE should take all the beating for Charlie Appleby and William Buick. The Glorious Goodwood winner is back in trip for his return to action and that will suit a horse who was last seen over 1m6f. He was progressive for most of last term.

Doncaster 14.25 – Titian (each way)

This is the Spring Mile Handicap. I’ll chance TITIAN for Julie Camacho and Graham Lee. He stays further than this but has good form with juice in the ground and might enjoy a strong pace to attack. He was never sighted at Newcastle last time but there was a glimmer of hope and he’s been dropped 2lb to the mark on which he was a fine third at Wolverhampton in February. A few quid each-way.

Kempton 14.40 – My Mate Ted

A handicap over 1m. MY MATE TED is drawn on the inside and will need some luck in running under Danny Muscutt for Roger Teal. That said, there’s no doubt he has the ability to challenge if at his best and a mark of 78 is not impossible at all. Hopefully will come flying through the pack late on.

Doncaster 15.00 – Kings Lynn (each way)

The Listed Cammidge Trophy over 5f. A few of those at the top of the market might prefer an extra furlong so KING’S LYNN comes right into the mix for Royal connections and trainer Andrew Balding and David Probert. My hope goes well over 5f with cut in the ground and while he was down the field when last seen he has very good track form over 5f and 6f. I’ll back him each-way.

Kempton 15.15 – Aztec Empire

The Queen’s Prize handicap over 2m. AZTEC EMPIRE looked like a horse going places at this track last time and can cope with the rise in the handicap ratings. Oisin Murphy rides for Andrew Balding on an animal who might just be a bit better than the handicapper in time. Can go from the front if need be in this small field.

Doncaster 15.35 – Montassib (each way)

The big betting race of the day in the Lincoln Handicap over 1m. The draw is always a bit of a lottery but if high is favoured I expect a big run from MONTASSIB for William Haggas and Cieren Fallon. My hope has always wanted a mile with juice in the ground and didn’t always get those conditions last term yet he still ran many huge races including a fifth in the Buckingham Palace at Royal Ascot. He’s a tough sort and a mark of 98 should be workable. A strong each-way chance.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
