13:40 – Sonnemoser
SONNEMOSER was well beaten on his latest outing at Haydock in December, but he’s clearly better than that, as he showed when filling the runner-up spot on his previous outing at Ffos Las in November. This will be his first start for Dr Richard Newland (formerly trained by Evan Williams) having been bought for £11,000 in January and it will also be his first run in a handicap. An opening BHA mark of 99 looks workable if he can reproduce his Ffos Las form and the rude health of the Newland yard (six winners from last 20 runners) also gives cause for plenty of optimism.
14:15 – Springwell Bay
SPRINGWELL BAY created an excellent impression when resuming winning ways in a novice event at Ascot last month, drawing clear on the run-in to land the spoils by nine and a half lengths in impressive fashion. An exciting prospect, he comfortably sets the standard in this line-up and his scope for more improvement suggests it should be just a formality as he tries to give weight and a beating to his four rivals.
14:50 – Gallic Geordie
GALLIC GEORDIE shaped as if needing the run after nine weeks off when finishing a well-held third at Newbury last time, so he is perhaps better judged on the form he showed when finding one too good over the same course and distance the time before. He was beaten only two and a quarter lengths on that occasion, keeping on well behind a progressive rival. He certainly showed enough to suggest he is still on a competitive mark and the return to softer going today is likely to play more to his strengths, too.
15:25 – Hartur Doudairies
HARTUR D’OUDAIRIES showed improved form and shaped well when filling the runner-up spot for the second start in a row at Warwick last month, rallying gamely on the run-in to pass the post just a neck behind the winner. Still unexposed after just four starts over hurdles, he is very much the type to go on improving and a 2 lb rise in the weights might not be enough to prevent him from going one better for Dan Skelton, who has an impressive 29% strike rate at Wetherby in recent years.

16:00 – Famous Bridge
FAMOUS BRIDGE produced a career-best effort to get off the mark over fences at this course a couple of weeks ago, recovering quickly from a mistake at the last (jumped well otherwise) to land the spoils by three lengths. His strength at the finish suggests the return to three miles today will be in his favour and it’s still early days with him as a chaser after just three starts. He seems to be getting his act together and another bold bid seems assured from just a 3 lb higher mark than last time.
16:35 – Heritier De Sivola
HERITIER DE SIVOLA was strong in the betting and duly ran really well when last seen running over this course and distance in January, looking the likeliest winner for a long way (hit a low of 1.38 in-running on the Betfair Exchange) before being picked off late on. He was beaten only two lengths at the line and fared much the best of those ridden prominently in pulling clear of the remainder. The winner followed that with an improved run in defeat next time and the strength of that form suggests Heritier de Sivola isn’t one to be giving up on following a 3 lb rise in the weights.
17:10 – Doc McCoy
DOC MCCOY stepped up on his debut effort under Rules with a good third at Southwell a few weeks ago, staying on well from two furlongs out to pass the post only four and a half lengths behind the winner. An impressive winner on his sole start in Irish points, Don McCoy has the best form in this bumper and he is fancied to put that experience to good use to see off a whole host of interesting newcomers.
