ITV Saturday gets under way early here with a limited novices’ handicap chase over an extended 2m5f. A shame only seven runners and Sholokjack might well defy a steep rise for an easy win last time. That said, I’ll chance BILL BAXTER who scored in style two runs ago and had every chance well falling last time. Sean Bowen rides for Warren Greatrex.
ITV are also at Doncaster Saturday for this handicap chase over 2m. PAY THE PIPER was really good at Musselburgh last time and can go in again for Ann Hamilton and Ross Chapman, a stylish and beautiful rider as you might expect with his surname. A very decent hurdler he’s taken well to fences and has a fine chance.
The Morebattle Handicap Hurdle over 2m. CORMIER won this last year and is only 1lb higher after a pretty dismal season. Brian Ellison’s charge is a useful handicapper at his best and this track obviously suits him well. Sean Quinlan is a perfect jockey booking and he might bounce back at a big price.
ITV also show Newbury racing starting with this handicap hurdle over an extended 2m4f. PILEON is interesting for Christian Williams and Jack Tudor. This horse is chucked in at his best and showed a glimmer at Doncaster last time. The stable are going well and did this column a favour with the Nap Kitty’s Light last weekend.
A Grade 2 novice hurdle over 2m2f. I don’t think SNAKE ROLL showed what he can really do at Warwick last time and now he’s a big price for Lucinda Russell and Derek Fox. Before that he’d looked really good at Newcastle and he’s the apple of his trainer’s eye. An each-way bet.
The Greatwood Gold Cup over 2m4f. Some real course specialists in here and I’ll go with PAINT THE DREAM who can sometimes look unbeatable at this track. Fantastic here two runs ago and not a bad effort at Kempton when last seen.
Another handicap hurdle here over 2m5f. RAFFERTY’S RETURN must have each-way claims off 128 after a fine second with that mark at Wetherby last time. My selection stays this trip and scored well at the previously named track on his previous outing. He’s lightly raced for Rebecca Menzies and jockey Sean Quinlan.
The Grimthorpe Handicap Chase over 3m2f. I’ll risk UNDERSUPERVISION each-way here for the Twiston-Davies team of trainer Nigel and jockey Sam. The seven-year-old has had jumping issues of late but go back to a third at Cheltenham in April and he showed what he can do. Stays well and well handicapped.
A Listed chase over nearly 3m. Zanza is much better at Newbury and is likely to run there so it has to be LE MILOS for the Skeltons in jockey Harry and trainer Dan. My hope has been off the track since landing the former Hennessy at Nerwbury off 146 and now he races with rating of 152. That handicap mark puts him in here with every chance.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
