13:40 –  De Rasher Counter

De Rasher Counter was let down by a rare jumping lapse in a valuable handicap chase at Uttoxeter last time and he had finished down the field in the Becher Chase at Aintree prior to that. However, he had shown when runner-up in a Warwick veterans’ chase in November that he remains capable of useful form and the return to similar company here is in his favour. De Rasher Counter enjoyed his finest hour when winning the Ladbrokes trophy over this course and distance in November 2019.

14:10 – Dargiannini

Dargiannini failed to complete on his chasing debut and first start for Harry Derham at Doncaster in December but he proved better than ever back over hurdles at Uttoxeter last time, keeping on well to score by seven lengths. Dargiannini still looks fairly treated after an 8 lb rise in the weights and has fewer miles on the clock than his rivals in this seniors’ handicap hurdle, so he looks the one to side with.

14:45 – Paint The Dream

Paint The Dream was ultimately well held in third behind Pic d’Orhy in the Silviniaco Conti Chase at Kempton last time, but he shaped as if still in form, just paying the price late on for giving chase to the winner. Paint The Dream had run out a wide-margin winner of a handicap at this venue on his previous start, making it three from three over fences at the course. Those wins include a wide-margin win in last year’s Greatwood Gold Cup and he should launch a bold bid in defence of his crown.

15:25 – Gipsy de Choisel

French recruit Gipsy de Choisel has an in-and-out profile since joining Nicky Henderson but put it all together to land a handicap hurdle at Warwick in May, comfortably drawing four and three-quarter lengths clear. He shaped with encouragement when fifth on his return at Ascot in November, just racing a bit too exuberantly to last home, but he’s still relatively lightly raced and looks the one to side with.

Cheltenham Festival 2023 Preview Night

16:00 – Matata

Matata spoiled his chance by pulling too hard when runner-up at Haydock on his penultimate outing, but the way he rallied close home was encouraging and suggests an opening BHA mark of 120 could be lenient. He proved even more headstrong when hanging badly left and running out at Wincanton last time, but the return to a left-handed track is in his favour and he’s worth siding with on his handicap debut.

16:35 – Neon Moon

Neon Moon enjoyed a productive campaign over hurdles last term, winning on three occasions. He’s still searching for a first success over fences, but he has run to a similar level as he managed over hurdles and he arrives here on the back of two creditable runner-up efforts. This looks less competitive than the handicap at Ascot that he finished runner-up in a couple of weeks ago and he can get off the mark in this sphere.

17:10 – Seeyouinmydreams

Seeyouinmydreams fetched 235,000 guineas after bolting up on her only start in an Irish point and she is of obvious interest on her bumper debut for Paul Nicholls. Nicholls has his team in fine form at present and four of his eight runners so far this month have won.
