13:25 – Giddy Aunt

GIDDY AUNT showed more than previously when beaten less than four lengths in a big-field maiden at Newbury last month, sticking to her task well under mostly hands-and-heels riding. She is the type to improve again now making the switch to nurseries and an opening BHA mark of 64 could prove lenient as she seeks a first win for the in-form Jonathan Portman stable.

14:00 – Oriental Dancer

ORIENTAL DANCER wasn’t seen to best effect when down the field in a maiden at Newmarket last time, travelling smoothly but never threatening to get on terms having been caught further back than ideal. That was still a big step forward and there should be lots more to come now making the switch to nurseries from what looks a handy mark.

14:35 – Power Of Gold

POWER OF GOLD shaped well when filling the runner-up spot on his debut at Ayr three weeks ago, doing his best work late on to pass the post only two and a half lengths behind the winner. There are a few interesting newcomers in opposition in this novice event, but he sets a decent standard and should take plenty of beating when you factor in his scope for further progress.

15:10 – Just Fine

JUST FINE could be worth another chance to get off the mark for the campaign. It was only in July that he finished a close-up sixth in the John Smith’s Cup at York, passing the post around three lengths behind the winner and looking unlucky not to finish closer still having met a bit of trouble. He is now 6 lb lower in the weights and can capitalize on the drop in grade to resume winning ways.

15:45 – Speedacus

SPEEDACUS was below form on his first outing for David O’Meara (formerly trained by Kieran Cotter) at Pontefract two weeks ago, but that run should at least have blown the cobwebs away after 11 weeks on the sidelines. A BHA mark of 81 looks fair judged on the pick of his form in Ireland and a change of headgear (visor replacing cheekpieces) could be the catalyst for an improved display.

16:20 – Oasis Gift

OASIS GIFT produced a career-best effort after 10 months off (gelded in the interim) to open his account in a maiden at Chepstow three weeks ago, staying on well to get the verdict by a neck. His strength at the finish suggests the return to six furlongs could eke out a bit more improvement and an opening BHA mark of 67 probably won’t be enough to stop him from making it two from two since joining the Clive Cox yard (formerly trained by Andrew Balding).

16:55 – Touchwood

TOUCHWOOD had valid excuses when disappointing at Lingfield last time, ending up poorly placed the way things panned out. He is fitted with cheekpieces for the first time today and that could give him the extra edge he needs to belatedly get his head back in front. He is certainly on a good mark, lining up here off 76 having suffered a couple of narrow defeats off 77 earlier in the year.

17:25 – Sir Winston

SIR WINSTON showed fairly useful form in three starts on the all-weather towards the end of last year, producing his best effort when filling the runner-up spot in a novice event at Newcastle in November. That form has worked out well – the winner Checkandchallenge has since developed into a smart performer – and an opening BHA mark of 76 is unlikely to prove beyond Sir Winston if ready to go after 10 months on the sidelines.
