This weekend sees the Ayr Gold Cup, and some good quality racing from my home track of Newbury – where I will be working for ITV racing, and where this week’s Lucky 31 kicks off.
13:40 Newbury – Siskany
Charlie Appleby has had a brilliant season and I’m hoping he can carry it on with SISKANY. He was a very good winner in Meydan last January, and was favourite for a £1 million race in Riyadh where he performed with credit. Coming into this part of the season as a fresh horse could see him at an advantage. I think he is a value selection here.
14:15 Newbury – Manaccan
John Ryan has high hopes for MANACCAN. He was a good winner at Ascot and won very nicely over this trip at Doncaster when bolting up – the selection is a three-year-old and could still be improving. The danger I feel could come from Diligent Harry for Clive Cox and Adam Kirby. Dropping back to 5 furlongs, it could be just what this lad has been crying out for.

Richard Hannon has plundered a couple of big prizes with this son of Havana Grey already, and this looks a perfect fit for SHOULDHAVEBEENARING. A solid performer who won’t mind the ground and is definitely a player.
15:05 Ayr – All The Time
I thought this daughter of Kodiac was unlucky at Salisbury. ALL THE TIME was hung left which didn’t help her cause on the wide outside at Salisbury, she didnt really have anything to race with and I feel should have won. She is pretty smart as we saw, beating Swingalong easily at Nottingham first time up. I’m willing to take a punt on her in this hot contest.
15:25 Newbury – Ottoman Fleet
This son of See The Stars was a short price in the King Edward VII stakes at the Royal meeting. OTTOMAN FLEET rolled around a little bit late on and maybe he just wants a little bit of juice in the ground, which he will get here and I think he is a definite player in this competitive three-year-olds race.
