Miss Mai Tai came good with her brave win over C&D last month and she’s respected under a penalty. Violeta has claims if she can build on her promising debut third at Thirsk, while there are several newcomers who need a close look including the Johnstons’ Lincoln Rockstar and Richard Fahey’s two runners. However, the vote goes to SWINGALONG, who wasn’t beaten far by the subsequent Molecomb winner at Newbury last time and looks a major player back in calmer waters for a yard that won this in 2020.

14:25 – Prayer Matt
Several have possibilities but the vote goes to Tim Easterby’s filly PRAYER MATT, who hit a personal best with her near miss at Leicester and is only 2lb higher here after a short break. Ballistic Berry went very close on her handicap debut at Musselburgh last time and she’s feared most, though Bonita B was a good second on Tapeta on Friday and has claims if she can transfer that form back to turf. Another interesting contender is David O’Meara’s lightly raced gelding Imperial Khan.
14:55 – Tazaman
Preference is for TAZAMAN, who battled well to win over 1m6f at Nottingham in June before a clear third behind two progressive 3yos at Newbury last month. This relatively lightly raced 5yo is still unexposed at staying trips and looks a big player off the same mark as last time. The main danger is Blistering Barney, who goes back up in trip and down in grade after his creditable effort at Hamilton last time.
15:25 – Hyperfocus
Top of the list is C&D winner HYPERFOCUS (nap), who has a very solid record this season and was a close fourth in a big-field Class 2 event at York last Saturday. The pick of the opposition is the admirable 8yo Dakota Gold, who recorded his 14th win when scoring at York in May and was a good second on AW last time.
15:55 – Gainsbourg
This looks a bit trappy but it might be worth siding with GAINSBOURG, who made some late headway behind two well-handicapped rivals at Newcastle last time and is an interesting contender at this new trip. He’s A Gentleman has been very consistent in handicaps and could be a big danger if he copes with his step up to 1m2f. The other one on the shortlist is Dungar Glory, who had an excuse on AW last time and could resume her progress if she gets a good tow into this race.
16:25 – Roach Power
This race revolves around ROACH POWER, who found things tough in a hot handicap at York last time but sets a good standard on his peak form including a second in a 6f maiden here in May. He has strong claims if he can get back near his best and has shaped as though this drop to 5f should be fine. Stalingrad (second choice) and No Guts No Glory are the main form dangers, though Bryan Smart’s well-bred newcomer High Opinion needs watching in the market.

17:00 – Spantik
Spiritofthenorth is having his first run beyond 1m2f on the Flat but he has won over hurdles and is certainly worth the attempt over this far. However, this looks like being a fair test at the trip and SPANTIK, who ran so well here in May, can put his proven stamina to good use back on the Flat. Bit Of A Quirke can go well from the front but Little Ted’s best form is at shorter and Benadalid needs a revival in the first-time visor.
