13:27 – Bold Act

Charlie Appleby has won the last two editions of this race with Dhahabi and Modern Games, and he introduces a couple of interesting colts here in Bold Act and Highbank. Narrow preference is for Bold Act, who has ace apprentice Harry Davies taking off a valuable 5 lb. Bold Act is a son of New Approach and a half-brother to Wakening, who won on her sole start as a two-year-old.

13:57 – Good American

Good American made a promising start to her career when winning on debut at Salisbury last season and that earned her a shot at the Oh So Sharp Stakes. She failed to make an impact in that Group 3 but it’s easy enough to overlook that effort bearing in mind it came so early in her development, while the softer ground may not have been ideal. Good American is a well-bred filly – she’s by American Pharoah and out of a Group 2 winner in Germany – so she remains with potential and is worth siding with on her handicap debut.

14:32 – Francesco Clemente

Francesco Clemente claimed a notable scalp when landing the Wood Ditton on his debut, beating subsequent King George V Stakes winner Secret State, and he backed up that positive impression when readily landing the odds in a Sandown novice. Francesco Clemente has much more to offer after only two starts and entries in the Great Voltigeur and St Leger suggest he is held in high regard by the Gosdens. He is a smart prospect and can prove too good for his rivals on his handicap debut.

15:07 – Wowzers

Wowzers progressed well last season, signing off with a win in a Bath novice, and after shaping like he needed the run on his return at Leicester he got back on the up when runner-up at Nottingham last week. Wowzers only found a thriving rival too strong at Nottingham and he holds obvious claims off the same mark here, with his lightly-raced profile offering hope of further improvement.

15:42 – Alligator Alley

Alligator Alley has yet to win since joining David O’Meara from Joseph O’Brien but he shaped well when fourth at Epsom last month and has been given a big chance by the handicapper after failing to make an impact on his two most recent outings. Alligator Alley shouldn’t be judged harshly on those efforts, however, as he possibly found the softening ground against him at the Curragh, while last time at Ascot he raced freely in the group posted furthest away from the main action. He can take advantage of this reduced mark and ease in grade.

16:17 – Sugauli

Sugauli shaped with promise on his reappearance at Yarmouth in April, finishing a close-up third despite racing too keenly. Sugauli needs to learn how to settle but he is on a handy mark if putting it all together and is worth siding with on his return from a three-month break.

16:52 – Antiphon

Antiphon disappointed last time but he sweated up beforehand and it’s worth overlooking that rare poor effort. Antiphon had run right up to his best when runner-up in a six-furlong handicap here on his previous start, and he can bounce back here in a race he might be able to dominate from the front.
