MANASLU built on earlier promise to open his account at Carlisle last month, putting his experience to good use by making all of the running. He was clear at the two furlong pole and was just kept up to his work after and that style of running will see him to good effect round here. Any rain wouldn’t harm his chance and he looks the one to beat on handicap debut. Golden Sands, who is enjoying a productive season, can give him most to think about.
MYSTICAL APPLAUSE is bred to be useful and built on the promise of his debut when getting off the mark over six furlongs at Salisbury earlier this month, taking a while to hit top gear but knuckling down well to prevail by a neck. The step up to seven furlongs is sure to suit him now and he is expected to progress further and defy a penalty. However, strong market support for the well-bred Andrew Balding newcomer Mlle Chanel would put a slightly different slant on things.
This looks open, but a chance is taken on POET’S MAGIC as she’s travelled with a good deal of purpose on both starts this term and could be at concert pitch now, added to which she’s well drawn in stall 2. Sir Oliver is another who is nicely berthed towards the inside and rates a threat, while Manhattanville arrives at the top of his game and can also play a prominent role if David Probert can manoeuvre his way into a challenging position from stall 11.

This looks competitive and it is VAZIRE who makes the most appeal. She showed improved form to open her account over an extended seven furlongs at this track last month and was well backed to follow up on handicap debut at Sandown last time. She could only finish fourth on that occasion, but didn’t get the clearest run, short of room on the rail but running on again once in the clear. Vazire has landed stall 1 here and should relish the step up in trip. Electress ran well in some good backend maiden/novice events last term and is feared most.
BRAINS has done the majority of his winning on the all-weather, but he is effective on turf, and he looks the one to beat on these terms now dropping in grade. He travelled as well as any in a much deeper race at Kempton last time and a similar performance should see him resume winning ways here. Liberation Point may emerge next best with first-time blinkers enlisted.

BRAZILIAN BEACH showed improved form on her first start at this trip and on handicap debut when dead-heating with another improver at Haydock last time and she may have more to offer. She was doing all of her best work at the finish that day, displaying a likeable attitude, and a subsequent 5 lb rise leaves her on a competitive mark. Box To Box can also feature, whilst Killearn is worth monitoring in the betting having been gelded since last seen.
