13:05 – Contingency Fee
CONTINGENCY FEE wasn’t at his best in three starts on the all-weather towards the end of last year, but he had already enjoyed a very productive campaign with six wins for Phil McEntee. He lines up here from a BHA mark of 71, only 1 lb higher than when registering his last success at Newmarket in August. This is a very weak race and Contingency Fee looks to hold obvious claims if he’s ready to go after four months on the sidelines.

13:35 – Shining Al Danah
SHINING AL DANAH didn’t show much on her debut at Newmarket two weeks ago, but that was a tough starting point to her career and the experience is sure to bring her on. She is certainly in the right hands to go on improving and John and Thady Gosden have been among the winners recently (6/24 in the last seven days) to suggest the yard is starting to hit top form. In a wide-open maiden, Shining Al Danah can find the necessary improvement to get off the mark at the second attempt.
14:10 – Knight Of Honour
KNIGHT OF HONOUR shaped with plenty of promise when third on his debut at Leicester in October, taking a while to get the hang of things before finishing strongly to pass the post just a neck behind the winner. The runner-up Akhu Nayla is in opposition again here and there clearly isn’t much between the pair. However, Knight of Honour shades the vote this time with significant improvement on the cards now stepping up in trip to a mile.

14:40 – Special Mayson
SPECIAL MAYSON won his final two starts as a three-year-old and he showed enough when fourth on his reappearance at Catterick earlier this month to suggest there are more handicaps to be won with him this season. He was beaten a little over a length and arguably deserved extra credit after racing closer to the strong gallop than ideal. The drop back to six furlongs here won’t be an issue and he is well worth another chance to prove himself better than a BHA mark of 66.
15:13 – Hotspur Harry
HOTSPUR HARRY took a step back in the right direction when fourth at Windsor three weeks ago, keeping on well to pass the post only three lengths behind the winner. He is entitled to strip fitter with that first run for seven months under his belt and this looks a good opportunity for him to finally take advantage of his falling mark. For context, he can line up here from a mark fully 11 lb lower than when registering his latest victory at Newcastle in April 2021.

15:48 – Bake
BAKE proved to be a disappointment when last seen finishing down the field at Haydock in October, but it’s far too soon to be writing him off after just one bad run. He had looked a big improver in winning both his previous starts in 2021, notably producing a career best to defy a BHA mark of 82 on his handicap debut at Doncaster in August. He still looks well treated on a strict reading of that form and it’s not out of the question that he may yet have more to offer after just five starts.
16:23 – Ajrad
AJRAD shaped promisingly after five months off when finishing third at Lingfield last time, a race he was arguably unlucky not to win. That contest was run at just an ordinary gallop and Ajrad was caught further back than ideal, so it was to his credit that he was beaten just a neck after meeting trouble over two furlongs out as well. He can race from the same mark here and the application of a first-time hood might give him the extra edge he needs to finally open his account.
