13:45 – Langer Dan

It is very hard to get away from the Dan Skelton-trained LANGER DAN. He got brought down at the second hurdle obstacle at the Cheltenham Festival when he had been laid out for that contest. He races off the same mark again and a reproduction of his second place to Galopin des Champs as last year’s Cheltenham Festival is more than good enough to win this. Tronador could run well as he won this contest last year.

14:20 – First Street (each-way)

FIRST STREET looks an absolute steal each-way in this contest, he has the same official rating as the favourite, Jonbon. He was finishing the race off really well at the Cheltenham Festival behind the very smart State Man of Willie Mullins in the County Hurdle. He will be ridden quietly and come through them. Jonbon had a hard race at Cheltenham and you never really know how they will cope with that.

14:55 – L’Homme Presse

What a cracking contest this is. Bravemansgame and L’HOMME PRESSE are both brilliant jumpers and this really could be sealed by one or the other making a mistake late on. Ahoy Senor was a winner of a Grade 1 at the track over hurdles but he doesn’t jump as well as the other two. He’s a really strong stayer but the other two are better jumpers and this track puts a real premium on jumping.

15:30 – Fakir D’oudairies

FAKIR D’OUDAIRIES won this race last year and swerved Cheltenham for a repeat bid. He is hard to look past. Hitman could surprise at a big price and run a good race at a track that will suit him.

16:05 – Spiritofthegames

SPIRITOFTHEGAMES finished third in a handicap chase at the track last year. He is a good jumper and this will suit him.  He ran a blinder at Cheltenham. Senior Citizen was third last year but is higher this time around in the weights. Mister Coffey is quirky – but talented – and if he takes to these fences he will take a bit of beating. It is an ‘if’ for me though.

16:40 – Banbridge

I am struggling a little to oppose BANBRIDGE, the winner of the Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle. He is not in the same league as last year’s winner of that race – Galopin Des Champs – but that’s not his fault. He is a solid performer and the lack of an obvious star in here makes him the selection.

17:15 – Richmond Lake

Donald McCain’s runner, RICHMOND LAKE, was a beaten favourite in the novice hurdle at this track last year by North Lodge and Bombs Away. His run behind Jonbon at Haydock merits respect and he looked booked for the places when falling at the last at Keslo in a decent contest. He makes his handicap debut off a mark of 132 and might be underestimated by the assessor.
