13:45 Leopardstown – Mighty Potter (Ryan McCue)

MIGHTY POTTER was one of the biggest eye-catchers of the whole weekend at Fairyhouse back at the beginning of the month when finishing third in the Royal Bond Novice Hurdle. This looks a slightly weaker race in my eyes and with that experience under his belt he should take care of these, stamping himself as a live contender for the Cheltenham Festival in March in the process.

14:20 Leopardstown – Crowns Major (Allan Byrne)

CROWNS MAJOR has only had the two runs over hurdles, but it is very interesting that Emmet Mullins has decided to pitch him straight into a handicap off a mark of 127 that looks very workable. Ground should be fine for him and he does have experience of big fields having run a good race here at Champions Weekend when fourth off a mark of 96.

14:50 Chepstow – Hold That Taught (Each-Way) (Niall O’Reilly)

HOLD THAT TAUGHT is 6lbs out of the handicap, although I still believe he looks set to run a big race here. Go back to last season where he was a very good second at the track behind Ask Me Early (with Highland Hunter well behind in third) when he departed two fences from home.

That looks very strong form, and Hold That Thought looks extremely likely to improve for staying trips. Meanwhile, he’s also a proven mudlark and he should appreciate the current ground conditions. He’s only been seen once this year, where he was an impressive winner of a Carlisle handicap and connections would surely have had this race as a target for quite some time. The Venetia Williams-trained runner looks a solid each-way bet in this contest.

LimerickDec20

15:50 Limerick – Mullinaree (Frank Hickey)

MULLINAREE shaped well in a point-to-point at Tattersalls last year. He finished third behind Ginto, who has won Grade 2 over hurdles, and Since Day One, who is two-from-two over hurdles since joining Donald McCain. The fourth Garincha won a handicap hurdle today at Wetherby, so it is really solid form.

Mullinaree was only a 7/2 shot on his bumper debut at Cork last April, but was disappointing when only finishing fifth. To be fair, that form is working out well enough and this does not look the strongest bumper ever ran. Local connections reach for a tongue tie, which may explain why he stopped quickly in his bumper and he looks worth taking a chance on.

21:05 Santa Anita – Li Mu Bai (Donal McKenna)

This interesting optional claimer from Santa Anita caught my eye with the ex-Gavin Cromwell runner LI MU BAI possibly being forgotten by the market. He blew the start around the notoriously tight Del Mar, but things should be different at Santa Anita. He is out of Stall 2, has a jockey upgrade and has nothing to find on speed rating. That’s why he gets the nod in this seven-runner contest.

Traders tips:

13:45 Leopardstown – Mighty Potter
14:20 Leopardstown – Crowns Major
14:50 Chepstow – Hold That Taught (Each-Way)
15:50 Limerick – Mullinaree
21:05 Santa Anita – Li Mu Bai
