Cheltenham tips: Frank Hickey’s ‘left field’ shout to challenge Honeysuckle

Frank's rogue call could be a goer.

Frank Hickey channelled his inner Nostradamus on the latest episode of our From The Horse’s Mouth Punters’ Panel.

One loyal listener asked our horse racing experts for any potential challengers to the incredible Honeysuckle in next year’s Champion Hurdle when Paddy’s top trader Frank came up with what seemed an unlikely shout at the time of recording.

“There’s very little that can beat her,” said our man. “If I was looking for angle it would be Appreciate It because he’s not run over fences. He’s the only that’s a bit from left field.”

Less than 24 hours after Frank’s rogue call, Willie Mullins announced that plans for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle winner to go chasing had been abandoned for the campaign. As a result, Appreciate It was immediately slashed for the Champion Hurdle 2022 and is currently the second favourite in our antepost betting market.

Our resident jockey-turned-pundit Ruby Walsh believes Honeysuckle is simply too good for her rivals, however.

“Every now and then one horse comes along that’s superior to the opposition,” he said. “It’s rare that you get an era like Moscow Flyer, Well Chief, Azertyuiop. You tend to have one standout horse in an era.

“When Sprinter Sacre started he was well clear of the opposition. Okay, when he came back to win the Champion Chase he had Un De Sceaux but you do tend to get times with one horse well clear of the opposition and Honeysuckle is well clear of the opposition.

“I’d say without Honeysuckle the others could be decent but she’s just very, very good.”
