Horse Racing tips: Matt Chapman’s slick picks for Monday’s ITV races

Matt has your back for a huge day of action at Chepstow and Kempton.

13:05 Chepstow – Paint The Dream

ITV Monday gets under way here with a handicap case over an extended 2m3f. PAINT THE DREAM is high in the handicap but likes this course and wasn’t disgraced in the fabulous Paddy Power Gold Cup last time. There are question marks over plenty of these and my hope has a good chance of bouncing back for Fergal O’Brien and Connor Brace.

13:20 Kempton – Edwardstone

Kempton starts with the Grade 2 Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase over 2m. Solo will probably run better than his mark, but impossible to oppose EDWARDSTONE for Alan King and Tom Cannon. The useful hurdler was fantastic in the Grade 1 Henry VII at Sandown last time beating War Lord and Third Time Lucky and while that race fell apart this does not look a great renewal.

13:40 Chepstow – Forever Blessed

This is a Grade 1 in the Finale Juvenile Hurdle over 2m. I love Porticello but FOREVER BLESSED looked huge at Sandown last time and can remain unbeaten for Harry Fry and Sean Bowen. The son of Zoffany did not cost much but dotted up when last seen and could be very good indeed.

13:55 Kempton – Tequila Blaze

Now a handicap hurdle over an extended 3m. TEQUILA BLAZE is improving all the time and did well to win at Ascot last time having raced wide. Her stamina was pretty much proven that day and Liam Harrison takes off a valuable 3lb for trainer Fergal O’Brien. Technically you could argue she’s now only 2lb higher in the weights despite that success! Has no weight to carry.

14:10 Chepstow – Al Dancer

Now a handicap hurdle over nearly 3m. AL DANCER is not an absolute certain stayer but he got home well enough at Sandown last time when fourth and he might just be able to outclass this field for trainer Sam Thomas. The former useful chaser has 12st 7lb to carry but his jockey Thomas Doggrell takes off a valuable 7lb which will help.

14:30 Kempton – Shishkin

The Grade 2 Desert Orchid Chase over 2m. Finally the most exciting horse in training is back as we see the return of SHISHKIN after a delayed start to the season. The former Supreme and Arkle hero is miles better than this lot provided he’s in reasonable shape for the return. That is open to question, but still it’s silly to oppose the Nicky Henderson hope ridden by Nico de Boinville.

14:50 Chepstow – Secret Reprieve

The big betting race of the day in the Welsh Grand National over an extended 3m6f. A boring selection here, but SECRET REPRIEVE has an incredible chance to land the race for a second year in a row. He’s only 6lb higher than when dotting up last year and actually has a lower racing weight of 10st. Obviously I have to rely on him being fit first time and it’s a decent renewal, but he could win on the snaff again for Evan Williams and Adam Wedge.

15:10 Kempton – Cap Du Nord

Coverage on ITV ends with this handicap chase. Not all of these will be strong stayers but one who is is CAP DU NORD trained by Christian Williams. My hope has been dropped 2lb despite a very fair fourth at Wincanton last time. That means he’s tastily handicapped off a mark of 133 having once been 142. Stays very strong so worth a few quid eachway under Ellis Collier who takes off a useful 7lb.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
