I’m all over Hurricane Ivor, who ran impressively and beat Moss Gill at Newbury last month. I just don’t see how the horses he has beaten – the likes of Tis Marvellous and Dakota Gold – turn the form around. He’s a progressive horse and I like the way he shoots for the line.
I can see why Fearby is the favourite heading into this one after an impressive run at Newbury last month. His form is solid but I’m going to go with Ernies Valentine in an each-way punt. William Buick rides for Paul and Oliver Cole. He beat Wings Of War in June at Leicester. He’s been in and out since but it’s a big field and he’s got an each-way chance.
I’m taking on Hukum in this one. He needs to go up in trip after his disappointing run last time out when beaten at Kempton. I fancy Wells Farhh Go at a big price in an each-way play. He had a 18 month layoff before returning at York in May. He then went to Chester last month and tired towards the end but ran well. It’s an open contest and he’s a decent horse. He is finally able to run after a prep rather than off a layoff.
Mother Earth was unlucky in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown behind No Speak Alexander and Pearls Galore. She also didn’t get a great run behind Snow Lantern at Newmarket. She’s a consistent filly and I fancy her to beat Snow Lantern this time round.
I’m going for Great Ambassador to turn the form around on Bielsa after their Ayr Gold Cup run. Bielsa beat Great Ambassador by around two and a quarter lengths that day, but Kevin Stott rode him brilliantly and was on a better strip of ground. Glen Shiel is the class horse but he’s just bang out of form right now.
I’m siding with Anadora, who Shane Gray rides for Kevin Ryan. The ground is my main reason for taking Anadora. She was seventh at Ascot in June and was second behind Illustrating at Goodwood on soft ground. Anadora can handle the soft ground whereas I’m not confident that Chipotle and Vintage Clarets can.
Aratus did well to win at Goodwood as he didn’t come down the hill that well in my eyes. Prior to that he won at Newbury and Doncaster. When he gets to the front he doesn’t do any more than he has to which is good for not getting stitched up by the handicapper!

14:20 Newmarket – Ernies Valentine (Each Way)
I can see why Fearby is the favourite heading into this one after an impressive run at Newbury last month. His form is solid but I’m going to go with Ernies Valentine in an each-way punt. 14:55 Newmarket – Mother Earth
15:15 Ascot – Great Ambassador

Bielsa beat Great Ambassador by around two and a quarter lengths that day, but Kevin Stott rode him brilliantly and was on a better strip of ground. Glen Shiel is the class horse but he’s just bang out of form right now.
15:35 Redcar – Anadora
I’m siding with Anadora, who Shane Gray rides for Kevin Ryan. The ground is my main reason for taking Anadora. She was seventh at Ascot in June and was second behind Illustrating at Goodwood on soft ground. Anadora can handle the soft ground whereas I’m not confident that Chipotle and Vintage Clarets can.
