A field of 15 has been declared for Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp after Teona was scratched at final declarations.
Roger Varian’s charge, who stunned dual Classic winner Snowfall in the Prix Vermeille over course and distance earlier this month, will miss out due to unfavourable soft ground conditions.
Teona is the only horse among the group of 14 that stood their ground on Monday to pull out, with the supplemented duo of Adayar and Snowfall completing the field that will go to post at 3.05pm.
Breeders’ Cup heroine Tarnawa has emerged as the favourite in Paddy’s betting market for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe 2021 after being drawn in stall three while Epsom Derby winner Adayar has it all to do from stall 11.
The Grand Course at Longchamp generally favours those low in the draw, although the softer the ground the less of a factor it becomes based on previous runnings over the years – and rain is forecast before Sunday’s race.
Paddy’s spokesman Paul Binfield said: “The draw has finally allowed us to separate Tarnawa and Adayar at the head of the market with the former’s three berth meaning she’s now clear favourite with Adayar eased out a fraction due to a seemingly unfavourable stall 11.”
Irish Derby and St Leger winner Hurricane Lane – successful over course and distance in the Grand Prix de Paris – is next to Tarnawa in stall two, Frankie Dettori’s mount Love will break from stall four, with Epsom and Irish Oaks queen Snowfall in nine.
Bubble Gift is in stall six – which has produced four winners of the last 16 renewals – Deep Bond is expected to bring the pace from stall five, while fellow Japanese hopeful Chrono Genesis is high in 14.
