With the Qatar Prix De l’Arc de Triomphe less than a month away, Sunday’s fixture at ParisLongchamp marks the start of a huge few weeks at the Parisian track. BAAEED is the star name on show and looks impossible to oppose in the Group One Prix Du Moulin De Longchamp (14.48).

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Luckily for punters, there are five other listed and Group races across the afternoon to get stuck into. There is some great value on offer in some seriously competitive fields and aside from Baaeed, I have chosen five horses that I think should hit the target on Sunday’s card.

15.30 – WALLY (NAP)

A model of consistency all season and an expert over the 2,000m trip, Jean Claude Rouget’s WALLY looks the standout bet on Sunday’s card. The ultra-tough grey has already amassed over €210,000 in 2021 and will be looking to land a third Group Three of the year in La Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte this weekend.

A winner of eight of his fourteen starts, Wally already has the beating of both Algeirs and Seachange here, and on paper is significantly clear of his remaining rivals. With zero doubt over the trip, a confident ride can be expected from Cristian Demuro and Wally should continue a red-hot spell for his trainer Jean-Claude Rouget.

12.23 – ZELDA

She is a filly I love and is obviously very highly regarded by connections, considering she still holds two Group One entries. ZELDA has the world at her feet and I think she can conserve her unbeaten record in the opening race on the card. Her trainer Jean-Claude Rouget has been firing on all cylinders with his two-year-old’s this season and both of Zelda’s wins have been extremely impressive. Obviously the opposition is now tougher and she has to trade blows with Charlie Appleby’s Ascot Listed winner New Science and the unbeaten Making Moovies, but Zelda gets weight of those two rivals and can keep the Group One dream alive for her celebrity owner, NBA Championship winning Tony Parker.

12.58 – VARKESHA

She may have a shade to find with some of these on official figures, but the Aga Khan owned/bred filly VARKESHA looks on an upward curve and is impossible to discount. The daughter of Pivotal steps into listed company for the first time this weekend but based on her most recent win at Deauville – this is at least her level. She travelled with a lot of purpose that day and stayed on strongly through the line. The form of that race was not too far off listed standard and considering that she gave weight away all-round that day, she is certainly of interest off levels here.

13.33 – GREGOLIMO

He drifted like a barge when after I put him up as my Dark Horse at Deauville three weeks ago but GREGOLIMO still got the job done in style. His trainer Simone Brogi has never hidden his affection for this horse and the southern-based trainer has found an interesting opportunity here for his stable star.

He has to take on the higher rated trio of Saiyadad, John Leeper and Highland Avenue, but they have all been flops of-late and at least Gregolimo comes here in winning order. With some strong course form in the bag, I think that the Brogi-trained three-year-old is certainly the most appealing at the prices and although he may not win, a strong run can be expected.

16.35 – CALL THE WIND

Although he is coming back from a six-month break and his main target is probably the Prix Du Cadran next month, there is a lot to like about the chances of CALL THE WIND. A Group One winner in 2018, Freddy Head’s stable stalwart is now unpenalised for that success and takes on much inferior rivals here. If excusing his most recent run when flopping in Saudi Arabia, then Call The Wind looks unbeatable on the figures and even if he is not fully would up, he should be able win back at his favourite track.

15.30 – Wally (NAP)
12.23 – Zelda
12.58 – Varkesha
13.33 – Gregolimo
16.35 – Call The Wind
