The Cheltenham Festival is almost upon us and the heavyweights of Jump racing are set to do battle for the Top Trainer honours at Prestbury Park.
Willie Mullins claimed the crown last year after saddling seven winners, including four victories on the Friday. Gordon Elliott also trained seven winners and both picked up seven second-places, but Mullins took the title with six thirds to four.
The 14-time Irish champion trainer is back for yet another crack and will be looking to build on his tally of 72 victories, which places him at the head of the all-time winners list.
Mullins heads the Top Trainer market, partly thanks to an eye-catching roster of entries that includes Al Boum Photo, Chacun Pour Soi, Appreciate It and Monkfish, but the usual suspects are primed to try and steal his thunder.
Nicky Henderson – whose challenge is spearheaded by Arkle Chase entrant Shishkin – and Paul Nicholls represent the main English threat.
While the likes of Henry de Bromhead and Dan Skelton will also be looking to pinch some of the headline silverware off the leading contenders, but they face an uphill battle to claim the overall honours.
*Paddy will be all over your telly box throughout the Cheltenham Festival sponsoring ITV’s live coverage from Prestbury Park – and you can get free and exclusive tipping columns EVERY DAY from Ruby Walsh, Matt Chapman and Mick Fitzgerald here on PP News.
