Lyons Lane should have more to come in the cheekpieces and she’s feared, along with Montalvan and The Grey Zebedee. SAMBUCCA SPIRIT is thriving this summer though and he may be able to defy his latest 5lb rise and complete the hat-trick.
Cairn Island’s debut effort was promising and he’ll be dangerous if reproducing that. He wasn’t in the same form on a slower surface on his second start, however, and that is a possible concern this time. There are some interesting newcomers on show, especially Love Of Zoffany and READMAN, and the latter can make a winning debut.
Prissy Missy was nudged up only 2lb for her narrow win over Highland Acclaim at Catterick 26 days ago and has scope to progress again for her new stable but unexposed 3yo DILITHIUM ran well for a long way over 7f in his first two handicaps and today’s drop back in trip can enable him to gain a breakthrough success. Recent C&D winner Epeius is not handicapped out of contention under a 4lb penalty but he’d appeal more on good or faster ground.
Richard Fahey’s 3yo VENTURA EXPRESS (nap) was arguably a shade unlucky not to make a winning handicap debut over C&D last week and commands respect off the same mark today. The Mayson colt is untested on turf slower than good to firm but his sire was very effective on slow ground. See My Baby Jive also has low mileage, and is already proven on soft ground. Recent Yarmouth winner Dublin Rocker is next on the list.
Dutch Decoy was very strong in the closing stages when winning at Kempton on his seasonal/stable debut a fortnight ago and could still have significant untapped potential over 7f but ENTRANCING was a very creditable second of 16 on her handicap debut at York and might be the answer. Dual C&D winner Hajjam is a more speculative option to consider.
The Navigator might well have gone very close with a clear run at Hamilton 16 days ago and remains unexposed over this sort of trip but it could pay to give another chance to EASTERN SHERIFF. Hugo Palmer’s lightly-raced 3yo ran as though something was amiss at Newmarket last time but he looked good when winning by a wide margin on his handicap debut at Ripon. Stockbridge Tap and Funny Man are others to consider.
Several of these warrant consideration but top of the list is AL RASMAH, who kept on well for second at Ascot recently and now moves up in trip. Ironclad was a disappointing favourite in a warm Class 2 at Epsom on his latest outing but remains one to be interested in. Medal Winner is also considered, while Dark Lochnagar will move further up the pecking order if conditions become testing.
It will be very interesting to see how dual bumper winner Let Me Be fares on today’s Flat debut but this looks a good opportunity for NEW CHAPTER, who has displayed significant promise over 1m on his first two starts and is likely to be suited by today’s step up in trip. Bellatrixsa made an encouraging debut and may also feature.
David Loughnane can do little wrong right now and his LOLA SHOWGIRL looks good to follow up her emphatic handicap debut success at Chepstow. Jackhammer and Magic Voice are feared most in that order.
