Jason Weaver: A 20/1 play to gives us that Friday feeling at York

Go big or go home says Jason with Iffraaz in the 3pm.

Jason Weaver Ascot

13:55 Caradoc @ 8/1

Is building a very impressive profile and was very good late on when stretching away to win at Windsor. He looks to have got in here very lightly with the added distance definitely going to be in his favour. The champion jockey elect Oisin Murphy in the saddle, he’s drawn down on the inside so he can be smuggled around nice and easily.

14:25 Stradivarius @ 2/5

The champion stayer and Frankie Dettori will be long odds on to repeat last year’s success of the Lonsdale Cup to his Yorkshire, Royal Ascot and Goodwood Cup successes. He’s also got his ground this time as his speed was blunted at Goodwood last time by the softer underfoot conditions. We’re spoilt for Champions at York this week and he can go and claim another £1m in prize money for the team.

15:00 Iffraaz @ 20/1

He looked good winning on debut up at Carlisle, but was thrown in at the deep end in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Ascot. However, he was slowly away on that occasion and never got involved, so we can put a line through that effort. He then went to Yarmouth and put up a pretty impressive display, winning easily at double-digit odds.

He’s guaranteed to hit the line strongly and looks fantastic each-way value.

15:35 Battash @ 2/1

Charlie Hills’ runner has gotten it wrong both times in previous runnings of this race. His price seems ridiculous for a fascinating match-up with the July Cup winner Ten  Sovereigns, who is dropping back down to the minimum 5f distance. Ornate is drawn in stall three and should give a perfect lead to the selection, who can pounce a furlong out and finally claim the sprinting crown!
