Well, folks. It’s FOURTH time lucky for the Paddy Power Millionaire Chase at Sandown. If you’re not heard the story so far, we won’t bore you with it again. But, put simply, the weather has played havoc with our grand plans to make one lucky punter a MILLIONAIRE in 2021… so far.
Who knew giving away a million quid could be so difficult?
Anyway, here we are, with the Paddy Power Millionaire Chase finally taking place in the 14.25 Imperial Cup race at Sandown today.
Our 11 qualifiers were assigned their horses in Thursday’s draw but we’ve had some non-runners and had to do a re-jig. Below is our runner-by-runner guide to the qualifiers in the final showdown. We’ve also got Mick Fitzgerald, Matt Chapman & Frank Hickey’s Paddy Power Millionaire Chase tips for the big showdown.
And that’s not all. As a proud sponsor of the Paddy Power Imperial Cup we’ll also be putting up a £50k bonus to the horse that wins the Imperial Cup and goes on to win any race at the Cheltenham Festival the week after. Woof.
Paddy Power Millionaire Chase – Runner-by-runner guide
Miranda (Jillian, Boxburn)
Up 3lb in the handicap for latest convincing win at Doncaster. She’s won five of her nine hurdle starts. Not entered at Cheltenham.
Fransham (Owen, Dublin)
In form gelding has won two of his last four starts. Ran well when second at Newcastle on Feb 27th. Needs to brush up on his jumping to win this. Not entered at Cheltenham.
Mick Maestro (Carol, Cork)
Improving sort has won two of his last four starts and has at least made the frame in eight of his 11 starts over hurdles. Hit the last when third at Market Rasen latest. Holds County Hurdle entry at the festival.
Malaya (Jay, London)
Races off a 2lb lower mark than when winning this race back in 2019. She hasn’t won since and was never a factor at Ascot latest. Folly to ignore stables runners. Not entered at the Festival.
Miss Heritage (Kim London)
Consistent mare has won five and placed five times in her 13 hurdle starts. Richard Johnson an eye-catching jockey booking but she’d probably prefer softer underfoot conditions. Not entered at the Festival.
Natural History Chris, Leitrim)
Improving gelding sluiced in when odds on favourite at Plumpton on March 1st. Hiked up in the handicap today but there could well be more to come. Holds County Hurdle entry at the festival.
Langer Dan (Geoff, Bootle)
Caught the eye when a nearest at the finish fourth at Market Rasen Feb 21st. Having second run following a wind op. Stable getting plenty of winners lately. Looks set to play a big role with Harry Skelton taking over the reins. Entered in Martin Pipe at the Festival.
Mack The Man, (William Dublin)
Never a factor in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury on Feb 21st. Down in the weights today. Previous course and distance winner would probably prefer softer underfoot conditions. Not entered at the Festival.
Hasanabad (Stuart, Banbridge)
Yet to score since winning his maiden over hurdles in September. Formerly trained by Dermot Weld in Ireland and unexposed in this sphere. No surprise if making the frame at a decent price. Not entered at the Festival.
