Saturday

1.10pm, Lingfield – Give em The Slip (Frank Hickey)

GIVE EM THE SLIP is well bred with her dam placing in the 1,000 Guineas and there was plenty of promise in her debut effort at Newmarket last June. She was only narrowly beaten that day over 6f and that form is working out nicely. The winner was a decent fifth in the Group 2 Albany Stakes on her only subsequent start and every other horse from that race, bar the third, managed to win a race last season.

Give Em The Slip has obviously had a set back after that debut but if she can ever run to that level here, she should prove very difficult to beat.

1.10pm, Lingfield – Perfect Focus (Dan Collins)

PERFECT FOCUS was an eye-catcher at Kempton on his last start and looks sure to improve for the step-up to a mile here. His main rival looks to be Give em The Slip of Charlie Hills who has also been off since June, but the Crisfords’ good record in events like this around Lingfield make their colt the one to side with here.

2.40pm, Doncaster – Fern Hill (Conor Murphy)

This is about as wide open a Grade 2 as you’ll find and FERN HILL is the one I’ll side with. A lot of these can and will go forward with Fern Hill likely to be there or thereabouts but I don’t think he has to lead if anyone else wants to show him the way.

He’s looked dour in both his wins at Wetherby so far and stepping up to 3m in a strongly run contest is likely to improve him again. The second and the third from his most recent win have won since and his form doesn’t look too far off anything else on the table in a pretty poor affair.

3.15pm Doncaster – Musical Slave (Niall O’Reilly)

Cap Du Nord could prove to be a warm order here, with his form looking extremely strong, though I’m not fully convinced these will be his optimum conditions and I’m willing to take him on in a strong race.

I’ve been waiting for MUSICAL SLAVE to run ever since a very eye-catching run at Newbury last time, where he was held up off a slow gallop, before making progress and would have gone close to winning (in my opinion) but for a bad mistake at the last. Conditions of this race look ideal for him, and provided his jumping holds up I can see him going very close.

Canelo looks a big threat and is the one I’m most afraid of, though he’s been edging up the weights and is hopefully that bit more exposed than the selection.

4.18pm, Fairyhouse – Itsnotinit (Adam Killen)

  • UPDATE: RACING ABANDONED FOLLOWING SATURDAY MORNING INSPECTION

ITSNOTINIT comes here in cracking form having won on handicap debut and finished second on his latest start, where the pair were well clear. Stepping up in trip should bring more improvement and he looks to have a massive chance here.

Sunday

3.15pm, Naas – Escaria Ten (Allan Byrne)

  • TRACK DUE FOR INSPECTION ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON

3m around Naas on heavy this Sunday could well translate to survival of the fittest and ESCARIA TEN might just be the one best suited by the conditions. Pencilfulloflead brings the best form into the race having been touched off in a Group 1 at Limerick at Christmas by Colreevy, but he has to give 8lb to everything here and that wont be easy in the conditions.

Escaria Ten had a satisfactory debut over fences behind Monkfish before showing plenty of improvement when winning easily at Thurles the last day. His best runs have all been on heavy ground and he has already won four times over 3m.
