Next up on the PGA Tour is the BMW Championship at Olympia Fields. This course is a par 70 with two par fives that are over 600 yards and a a total length of 7,200 yards. As you can tell it’s a venue suited to those who hit it a little longer and I’ve got four to consider this week.
Viktor Hovland
Viktor Hovland had a solid 18th place at the Northern Trust with good weekend rounds of 68 and 66 which were encouraging given he was off the boil recently.
What caught my eye were his off the tee and approach figures. They improved really well over the weekend, especially on Sunday, putting up his best approach figures on the PGA Tour so far.
Cameron Champ
Next up is Cameron Champ. He missed the cut last week but it might be a bit of a blessing as we get a bigger price for him going into this week.
His long game let him down and he couldn’t keep the pace with the birdie fest. He knows this course well and like Hovland, I hope he shows a little bit of improvement on the greens.
Jason Kokrak
Jason Kokrak made an eagle on the last hole last weekend to make it into the BMW Championship so he’ll be on a high after that. He finished 13th last week and 15th the week before at the Wyndham Championship.
He put up the best approach figures of his PGA Tour career at the Northern Trust so all we need is a tour-average week on the greens and he’ll be in with a shout.
Cameron Smith
Cameron Smith showed a marked improvement with his 18th last week because he’s been pretty poor over the last couple of months. His long game was very good and Olympia Fields is a long course which should be playing quite firm and fast.
The irons are going to be a big factor this week and Smith’s in-form there and at those odds, I think he can go really well this week.
