Some fella in the comments section has declared Robert Lewandowski the winner of the 2019/2020 Ballon d’Or, it has emerged.
24-year-old Leonard Numpty made the announcement shortly after the Bayern Munich striker helped the German outfit clinch the Champions League for the sixth time.
After wiping the floor with a few lads in row under a post about 5G, the blogger awarded the Polish striker the Ballon d’Or in a comment which was liked by 67 others.
‘My winner of the 19/20 Ballon d’Or. Mr Robert Lewandowski. Congratulations to you’, he wrote.
Having previously decided to cancel this year’s award due to the coronavirus pandemic, organisers France Football made a dramatic u-turn following Mr Numpty’s announcement.
The organisers said: ‘We did not want to put an indelible asterisk on the prize list as ‘a trophy won in exceptional circumstances’.
‘However, given Mr Numpty’s endorsement, we have decided to award Robert Lewandowski the 2019/2020 Ballon d’Or’.
France Football cited Numpty’s incredible work in the comments section of posts about face masks as the main reason for their reversal.
‘Protecting the credibility and legitimacy of such a prize also means guaranteeing its irreproachability over time’.
‘Had it not been for Leonard’s compelling argument, we may never have recognised the feats of this incredible athlete’.
Other titans of the comments section took a break from arguing about Ellen DeGeneres to pay homage to their keyboard comrade.
Karen from Kildare voiced her approval of Mr Numpty’s choice:
‘I was just saying to our Trevor the other night that yer man Lewis Dowski was a deadly footballer’.
‘I mean, he’s no Bobby Baggio but he’s better than that fella Tia Maria who plays for Paris’.
‘I’m a big fan of Leonard’s, particularly his early stuff on the UNILAD posts about the Steven Avery trial’.
‘I fully support his recommendation on this one. But I’m not buying his theories on the Clintons’.
