Piers Morgan has beef with Andrew Johnston over the Paddy Power Golf Shootout – and it hasn’t even started yet.
The sporting event of the summer doesn’t tee off until 12pm tomorrow at the glorious Centurion Club in Hertfordshire and Johnston, known as ‘Beef’ because of his love of meat, is pleased to have avoided being paired with Morgan.
Following a poll voted for by you lot on the Paddy Power Twitter page (because none of the pros wanted to be paired with Piers), Tommy Fleetwood drew the short straw and will now play with the TV presenter for the first stage of the competition, the challenges round.
In the final seconds the votes came in for Tommy Fleetwood!
Beef was over the moon that the world-ranked No.10 golfer pipped him in the poll by just 1.2% of the votes cast. He couldn’t contain his relief and made the brave decision to take it to social media.
He Tweeted: “I’m sorry @TommyFleetwood1 being paired with @piersmorgan gonna be a looooong day. Well done everyone voting for Tommy!”
We’re taking you down sunshine… see who has the last laugh.
Needless to say that immediately caught the eye of the angriest man on the internet and he immediately fired a warning to Beef, “We’re taking you down sunshine,” he snarled, “See who has the last laugh.”
Surprisingly it was Beef who had the last word, though, adding: “I look forward to it.”
Paddy Power followers flooded the responses with condolences for Fleetwood who will be pushed to the very limit putting up with his new partner.
The Fleetwood and Morgan partnership was the last to be confirmed with the full list now revealed ahead of the 12pm tee off tomorrow which you can watch online, completely free, on the Paddy Power YouTubeand Twitterpages.
The event is subject to a rigorous, government-approved Covid-19 testing process, with all participants – and skeleton production crew- tested before being permitted to attend.
Beef, Morgan and Fleetwood are going to be joined by Thomas Bjorn, Carly Booth, Paul McGinley, Harry Kane, Peter Crouch, Freddie Flintoff and Jamie Redknapp for this unique pro-am that’s aiming to rewrite the rules of golf forever.
Pairings for the Challenges round:
Beef and Freddie, McGinley and Crouch, Bjorn and Redknapp, Fleetwood and Piers, Booth and Kane
Beef might have dodged a bullet in the challenges pairings, but he’s not been so lucky in the Shootout groupings.
GROUPINGS FOR THE PADDY POWER SHOOTOUT:
