Paris St-Germain v Real Sociedad

Both teams to score? No

Real Sociedad’s trip to Paris on Wednesday night sees a total clash of styles. The Spanish side topped Group D last December, scoring seven goals and conceding just two in six games.

Paris St-Germain, on the other hand, were involved in almost double the number of goals as Sociedad, scoring nine and conceding eight as they finished second in a nastily difficult group. The differences have extended to the clubs’ domestic form, with three of Sociedad’s last four games finishing 0-0 and the other finishing in a 1-0 defeat.

Only four clubs have been involved in less goals than Sociedad in La Liga this season, with the Basque club boasting the fourth-best defensive record in Spain. Meanwhile, each of PSG’s last five games have seen at least three goals, scoring an impressive 51 goals in Ligue 1.

Both teams have found the back of the net in each of PSG’s last five games and it remains to be seen if Sociedad’s pragmatism or PSG’s more attack-minded approach wins out on Wednesday. However, Wednesday’s game is likely to be a relatively cagey affair given that it a Champions League knockout game and there is a fairly good chance that at least one side will fail to find the back of the net so we’ll have Both Teams To Score? No.

Real Sociedad to Have 4 or More Shots on Target

It is hardly surprising that PSG conceded eight goals in the group stages given that they conceded an average of five shots per game in their six games against Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle, and AC Milan. In their defence, most of those goals – and shots on target – came in away games, with Paris facing an average of around three shots per game at the Parc Des Princes in the Champions League.

Real Sociedad will fancy their chances of causing PSG problems on Wednesday, however. The Spanish side average 4.7 shots on target per game in the Champions League and have the tools to hurt a PSG side that has conceded in four out of six games in the competition so far. It’s Real Sociedad to Have 4 or More Shots on Target next.

Lazio vs Bayern Munich

Harry Kane to Have 2 or More Shots on Target

Harry Kane seems to have brought Spursy to Bavaria. The England captain has had a terrific personal campaign in his maiden season at Bayern Munich while the club hilariously remains on course to finish trophyless for the first time in 12 years.

However, they will be extremely confident of overcoming Lazio in the round-of-16, even after their resounding 3-0 defeat at Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend. Lazio are currently eighth in Serie A with just 37 points from 23 games and were uninspiring while squeezing through a relatively easy group ahead of Feyenoord and Celtic.

Kane, who scored four goals in six group stage games, averages 3.3 shots per game for Bayern Munich this season and is likely to try his luck on several occasions in the Italian capital on Wednesday night. There is every chance that he finds the target at least twice.

Lazio to Commit 12 or More Fouls

Lazio have not committed a particularly high number of fouls in the Champions League this season, averaging 11.3 fouls per game in their six group stage games. They average over 12 fouls per game in Serie A and have collected the second-most cards in Italy this summer, receiving 60 yellow cards and one sending off in 23 league games.

They are likely to be forced onto the back foot against Bayern on Wednesday night and could easily amass at least a dozen fouls. Bayern will almost certainly control possession on Wednesday, averaging 58% per game in Europe this season compared to Lazio’s 45%, increasing the chances of Lazio committing a high number of fouls so we’ll take Over 12.

Under 4.5 Bayern Corners

Bayern have averaged almost exactly six corners per game in the Champions League so far this season, winning 35 corners in their six games. However, they won just six corners in their last two group games and rank 16th in terms of shots per game in the competition.

They face a Lazio side that conceded just 25 corners in six group stage games, averaging just over four per game. Lazio faced just 11.7 shots per game in the group stages, ranking as the 12th best team in the competition. Bayern’s corner count could be relatively low on Wednesday. I’ll finish with Under 4.5 Bayern corners.
